J. Hückel´s Söhne "Jota Velour", FP 5, possibly late 1920s early 1930s. Really fantastic Black Velour that easily dry creases. There is no Hückel on the Liner and Sweatband. The JHS Crest is the similar to the "Loden" Soft Felts that also do not have Hückel on the Sweatband and Crown Tip Patch. The Paper Label is a JHS Soft Felts Post WWI Type 8 and has no mention of JHS. This hat came from a Czech source.

That's a great find, Steve. The way it is written makes translation a bit difficult, but from what I gather mr. Bräutigam settled his account with two payments (Wechsel is a short for Geldwechsel or bill exchange) on the 20th and 31st which he wrote about in his letter of the 14th this month. u.ü.V is short for "unter üblichem Vorbehalt" meaning "with the usual reservation".

Stefan, Great find! Really nice form and really like the bow work. Also always good to have a date stamp.
Thank you, Steve.

Lembert "Extra Qualitat ", "Velour", 58cm possibly mid 1950s. Very high quality post WWII dark green Velour that is very pliable and easily dry creases. K. & R. Lembert had their own Velour Felt production in this time period. I would like to thank Brent for the tip.

Well, it is green ;) and I don't care much myself for this corded ribbonstyle but this looks like a very fine velour felt. Nice generous proportions to the hat as well.

Brüder Böhm Wien "Ultra", 57cm / FP 5, possibly 1930s late 1920s. This Stiff Felt is Wool and made by the B.B. Vienna factory.

Beautiful old bowler in great shape. Great find, Steve. The picture of the retailer is a really cool addition.

But...But...it is almost OCTOBER................AND the corded ribbon becomes quite useful for tying empty beer steins to your belt so they don't get lost...........(of course getting the cords back on the hat can be a bother).

I for one....WILL be wearing one of those tomorrow night!!!!!!! Green and all!!!!!!
:D

Occasionally a risky purchase with little hope turns out to be a hidden gem
Huckel Eta 5a.jpg
This is the case with this hat bought without knowing much about the size and conditions. The impulse prevailed.
Huckel Eta 4.jpg The package arrived in a bar, I picked it up and stopped to open it in a small public park and this hat came out with an almost absurd shape as it was sold as female hat
Huckel Eta 2.jpg
Going home I fixed it as best I could and something new came out of it.
Huckel Eta 3.jpg
Huckel ETA - Seal Velor made in Czechoslovakia. Size 6 or 59 cm. 7 3/8 US
Huckel Eta etichetta carta.jpg
The velour is dark brown and very soft to the touch. Sold in Le Havre - France.
Huckel Eta interno.jpg
The measurements are as follows: the raw brims are five centimeters, the open crown is 14 cm. and the ribbon is 4cm high.
Huckel Eta 4a.jpg
The hat is in excellent condition and hardly worn and, above all, it is my size!
Huckel Eta 7a.jpg
To get news on its history, I am waiting for Steve's visit, who will be in Verona shortly and so with him, the greatest expert in Central European hats, I will have all the details :)

This arrived today: The open crown is just over six inches and the raw edge brim is 2 5/8 inches. The felt is in fantastic shape and the leather sweatband looks good too, but the stitching is failing. I’ll let Steve @mayserwegener tell me what I’ve got.

I don’t know who would be up to the detailed hand sewing to fix the sweatband. I had Randall @Randall Renshaw do one for me a while back and I think that’s what made him avoid The Lounge. :)

With the timing I can see why you might think that, Brent, but it wasn’t you or the Dobbs sweat repair that has kept me away. Congrats on selling it, by the way, and I hope you made enough on the listing to recoup your investments on it. seemed to sell well to me.
There’s several reasons one may not wish to stick around on this forum for an extended period. Takes up a lot of time, for one.
Two, there are some in this place who run off good folks because they can’t seem to avoid being of a low type that they likely think they’re not…but most certainly are.
Was here long enough to see a lotta good guys go and too many bad guys stay.

Nuff said.

I know many of us miss you around here. You were a valued contributor. I know what you mean by caustic individuals and I’ve blocked/ignored several. I’m bummed that some have it behaved boorishly and made this an uninviting place for you.

I’m very happy with what the Dobbs sold for. I like this old German hat even more, but it’s also not my size.
