J. Hückel ´s Söhne "Flexible" "Seal Velour", measures 58cm, Crown Open 5 1/2 inches, Brim 2 1/4 inches, probably later 1930s. The Velour on this one is fantastic (molds like clay) and in perfect condition. The color is a Dark Chocolate Brown that absorbs all light so very difficult to photograph. This hat had a Crease Clip because you can see the deep crease is still present in the Crown. Also a very interesting liner that coordinates with the felt color. I couldn't locate a paper label but might be farther up into the crown. What is interesting is that I have J. Hückel ´s Söhne Promo Pocket Mirror from Huthase (from the same time period) with a similar style hat (Color, Form). I am very much looking forward to wearing this hat when cooler temperatures arrive.

O wow! Love everything about this hat. Colour, form, velours felt, liner, ribbon; the whole package. You had Daniele so excited he fell back to Italian mode. I hesitate to post my latest find here now, because it would look a bit dull by comparison. You spoil us, Steve.

At the risk of looking a bit dull compared to Steve's great Hückel velours, I'll give it a go anyway. We had a Resolut here a while ago and here's another one I found recently. Resolut homburg in brown. Bound brim at 6cm and crown 10,5cm at the pinch. There was a covering of some sort of the crown patch, but that is gone. The quality is "strand". There was a question on that with the other Resolut hat, because the label wasn't clear. I'm very pleased with this one and I like the curves it has. Late fifties to early sixties I believe.

Karl, thanks. Not a full size I'd say. More like a half size. Borsalino's do run a full size smaller in general. Stetson, Hückel and Wegener seem to run a bit large (especially Wegener). Mayser varies quite a bit. Engish made hats do run true to size mostly.

this black mayser was a supposably 55 according to the sticker under the lining, before steaming on a hat jack. Lost most of the liner logo as i washed it as it was minging and the plastic crown patch was beyond salvage. But wearable hat now if a bit soft View attachment 82823 .
It's a problem I've had with Mayser too: they can start to sag. Seems like you saved that one; probably wouldn't have had much chance to sell a 55 sized hat anyway.

thanks for the info, as a black hat i still like it better than my stetson wool trilby (my first hat), so it's now my funeral hat, that should put it through its paces.

Time for todays installment. There are similar hats on Steve's website (of course there are), but this is not an everyday hat. Peschel Chevret in black. Size 55 (but fits me quite well with only a little stretch). Overwelt brim at 5,8 cm and crown at 10cm in front (no pinch). This one had so much dust covering it that I thought it was grey at first. Aside from that it was shaped in a sort of pork pie shape (looking like a pilgrims' hat with the top chopped off and the buckle gone). But the quality of the felt shone through and you don't see Peschel hats all that much, so I bought it anyway. I brushed it, steamed it and reshaped it (some ghosting of the previous shape can still be seen). And there you go. Not everyone's cup of tea perhaps due to the taper on the crown but the felt is incredible and it does have some flair to it. Late fifties or early sixties (I looked on Steve's website for that I admit).
