Harv, Thanks! I glad you liked it. I think it's very interesting too.
Charles, Thanks too! Appears Schulpig had great appreciation for the mix of man and machine. This time period (between WWI and WWII) marked the Zenith of hat making, at least in my opinion. In addition to the text, the woodcuts are tremendous. They were quite the rage in early 20th-century Germany: One of several cultural revivals meant to inspire nationalistic pride and to harken back to the days of the master-craftsman. What's interesting to me is that this idea of craft is here combined with unabashed enthusiasm for the machine, which yields a wonderful melding of tradition and innovation. Good stuff!
Steve, great posts! Thanks for sharing. Interesting stuff there.
Great flea market finds, Manfred. I thought I could find some good hats here in Denmark via flea markets and thrift stores, but your finds are truly wonderful. Thanks, Steve! Indeed, the no name is very soft - could be a wool / felt Mix.

Being such a large size for the day, I wonder if this was a special order? How many larger hats do you find? If I remember correctly, most of your collection ranges from 56 -59.C. G. Wilke "Haar Rival", 60cm, 168g, probably late 1920s maybe early 1930s. This is a great Stiff Felt with a fantastic finish and a interesting bow design. It measures closer to 61cm so a big one.
Awesome Steve!
