Yes, I assume Kaufmann is the retailer. I've found a couple more Super Boreal hats on Ricardo and none anywhere else, so they seem to be Swiss French rather than French French.

Felt blend? If you mean the grey/white in amongst the predominant black, that's just the cloud of cat fur that awaited our return. Uncle Wojtek didn't do any hoovering while looking after the cats!:eusa_doh:

I thought because of the lint collection it might have some wool content but know I see the situation.

I will have to do some more searching around regarding Boreal.

Many thanks chaps. It's a fine hat indeed. The cats, well they just keep multiplying (or rather we keep finding black kittens dumped at various of our offices that we end up adopting). We're becoming a proper witches house …

It'll be interesting if you can dig some info up, Steve. The felt certainly has some wool content, btw. It has that stiff, tough DRY feel of wool felt. But not too much so probably low wool content, and retains a lot of the pliability and the softness of the fur content.

I can also see it from the finish. One of my favorite (the purplish EMS "Gloria") old hats is a fur - wool blend. I will see what I can find out about Boreal. Is there a paper label?

No. I've posted the only marks/labels. There was once a crown top sticker, as I say, which might have been useful, but it's long gone.

C.G. Wilke Flamand, over welt, size 59cm. Has all the original parts including the tip patch. Really fantastic / unique felt. I am thinking 1920s.

I found the hat shop (Reinhold Mette Freiberg) was established in 1926 and is still owned by the family today (Barbara Mette Freiberg). I assume the shop is still in business. Prior to opening the hat shop they manufactured fur felt ware (established 1825).

Ofcom - recently announced we've got the best Broadband in Europe (admittedly they ignored average speed, and ignored all but five of the European countries... :eusa_doh.

Frech Hüte since 1858, Vienna, Austria and still in business today. I found August Frech listed (Vienna Hat Makers Cooperative) in the Österreichisch Hutmacher-Zeitung December 10, 1925 and December 30, 1930 editions. I believe I have / had a current Frech Trachtenhut.
