Erich, The info you found on Wegener is similar to what I heard from my friend. I think it is possible they still have some hats locally sourced or old stock. The hat below is a special model Wegner Velour made for my friends store in Augsburg. I think this was made in the early 2000s and still high quality workmanship. I will have to ask him about Mayser now that production has moved to Slovakia. It is unfortunate that everything is being out sourced. The next step is to close the business. Look forward to seeing photos of your family's hat collection. By the way what area do you live in Germany?

WOW!!! That has to be one of the coolest vintage photos I have seen. That hat is so incredibly interesting. To me, the crown crease looks very similar to a western horse-shoe crease. Except it looks like the owner has also added sharp front pinches. Usually the horse-shoe crease it done with very tall crowned western hats, so I am thinking that this hat must have had a tall open crown in order to accommodate that type of crease. That brim can't be more than 2 inches. It looks like a wide overwelt, kind of like a Stetson Wafer edge. It looks like they stitched the overwelt down first, then added binding that was half the thickness of the overwelt and sewed that on. Then possibly they flanged the back extremely might like a Tyrolean, and ironed the front flat. VERY cool. :eusa_clap:eusa_clap:eusa_clap

Josh, I thought you would like this one. I think you are right about the Alpine connection*. I am still not sure what is going on with the over welt + binding.

* Some what similar to the crease on this Bittner Alpine Milan of mine. The man in the photo was from the same general area of Austria.

Man wearing a Schützen Homburghut, Hannover-Linden (1900). Picked this photo up recently. This shows a different (the original) aspect of the style although the term Homburg was not used in Germany.

Here's a little bowler/melone I just picked up in a thrift store for 1 euro. It doesn't fit, but it was in such great condition with a nice logo inside.
I've no idea of the age but I'm guessing 30s, based on the logo design. I could be wrong.
I checked out the location of the Weka company addresses on googlestreetview. There is a newish building on one site (was the original lost during the war?)
