German & Austrian Hutmachers

Stefan, Makes sense. I will see if I can find anything that matches that mark.

I have some digitized copies of Österreichisch-ungarische Hutmacher-Zeitung (this was up to WWI), Österreichische Hutmacher Zeitung and Österreichische Hut Zeitung. The name must have changed some time after 1933. I also have digitized copies of Deutsche Hutmacher Zeitung but 1920 and later copies were protected by copyright.
Because the film shows them I have been searching. Most countries do have digital national archives, but usually these are far from complete. The search in Germany did show they have actual copies to be viewed in either Leipzig or Berlin. That's something for the future I guess (and who knows what shows up on Ebay).
I have found a way to secure that Kollman movie though. If you want it I can always send it to you.

Stefan, Thanks! I checked around at various national archives ~ 9 years ago and ended up getting digital copies from Österreichische Nationalbibliothek and Staatsbibliothek Berlin. I actually found something interesting in December 1937 issues of Österreichische Hut Zeitung that I might post. I also found some issues of Deutsche Hutmacher Zeitung at Gotisches Haus Bad Homburg. I haven't been able to find anything for sale but I am sure some will pop up eventually. That would be great if you can send me the Kollmann video. Thanks again!

Leipzig (and Frankfurt) is home to the Deutsche Nationalbibliothek (German National Library), which has collected all German-language publications since its foundation in 1913. These journals can certainly be found there. However, it is not always easy to digitise items there - and even more difficult now...
But maybe there's something I can do for you later this year in order to fill gaps.

Waiting for other hats that are in postal limbo I thought I'd console myself with this one I saw on a Frech auction site.
Hückel Superior Velour. Sold to me as a size 56, but in fact a size 59, with the raw edge brim at 6cm and the crown at 10,5cm at the center dent. Doesn't appear to have been worn much if at all. The felt of this pre-war hat is glorious.

Thanks, Mark. Happens quite often that people don't look behind the sweat and just use a tape measure to get a ballpark figure. Par for the course of hat collecting I suppose.

Stefan, Some how I missed this beauty. It's a really fantastic find! I am sorry about the size. The condition is excellent. My guess is mid 1930s.
