Stefan, Another super find. I especially like the ribbon width.

The Hückel Weilheim felt of this time period tends to be very dense and springy but my guess is that was by design. Some were definitely pressed into a specific form but not sure if by the factory. They are later 1950s early 1960s hats so not long after you only have Machine Formed (these could be too).

I do have this moth eaten Hückel Weilheim "Extra" that has a lighter weight felt with a more typical smooth finish that is very malleable but it's an exception.

I am not sure if there was a great desire for hats that easily changed form in this time period and market (actually a World trend).

Thanks, Steve. I was comparing it my other Hückel Chamois and the difference is indeed in the ribbon width and in the way the brim stitching is done.
My guess about the feel of the hat is that it may also have something to do with the finish of the felt. I have other suede/chamois finished hats with the same properties: a certain springy-ness and a fair bit of resistance to being shaped. I couldn't say if this one was factory shaped or it would be that it came without side pinches originally.

It might also be the results of weather proofing. Also self shaping characteristics became less common in this time period.

Seen before here they are again! I brought the Meyser back to a nice shallow flange and gave it a "enhanced" crease....

The gray mixed color felt is really fantastic and easily dry creases. The sweatband is not in good condition so I wasn't able to take photos of the paper label.

Not yet, too much rain and snow when I have been out....will as soon as the weather clears a little. Fit perfect!!!! and of course..I LOVE that felt!! VERY nicely pounced, very fine indeed!!!

Stefan, Thanks again! It looked really bad upon arrival. The sweatband was very wrinkled and dried out. Luckily the felt and hat band were fine.

It is a great find, Steve. I like how the brown colour scheme is consistent throughout: felt, ribbons, sweat and liner.

Echter Mayser homburg in grey. Size 57, with the brim at 5,5cm and the crown 10cm at the pinch. Quality is called Superbe on the label (which I have not seen before). The liner is glued in so not a very early one; I'm thinking mid to late sixties.

Stefan, I have some (not sure number) "Superbe" but they are not as common as "Spezial" quality. I think this one is early transition period from stitching to glue. My guess is sometime in the early 1960s but it could be a bit later. The brim work work looks great.

Thanks, Steve. Comparing it to the Spezial homburg I recently bought it's not so much the hand of the felt that's different, but the weight of it. I just weighed them and the Superbe is indeed lighter: 120 grams as opposed to the Spezial's 140 grams. Finishing is excellent on both. The Superbe does have a windcord too, which I don't see all that often on Mayser hats.
