I don't know how often I found a hat that history is a great mistery! The Wisko has a nice liner and indeed, very unique!

Manfred, Thanks!

Remember the fantastic "Gloria" hat (also the "Lollar")?

These hats are hats are similar. The WISKO actually has similar yellow number stamps. Also the sweatband seam construction and paper label format. On the WISKO do you think the first word is Rossach as in Rossach, Germany? If so I guess the model name is "Rossach Kosmos 1"!

Förster "Saturn Pat.", 58cm, Wool, Crown Open 5 1/2 inches, Brim 2 1/4 inches, probably later 1930s. I believe this one was made by Max Förster Hat Factory Altenburg (Thuringia) so a first for me (as far as I know). The felt is stiff but works well with this type of form and has a very nice color + finish. Also an interesting sweatband finish effect.

WISKO "Kosmos", 58cm, Crown Open 5 1/2 inches, Brim 1 7/8 inches probably late 1930s. I think this Fur Felt or could be Wool / Fur blend. I couldn't find anything on WISKO. The paper label format is similar some other mystery hats of similar quality.

Interesting, and lovely liner logo. I'd never heard of Wisko before either, but did find another one listed on ebay, totally different liner though: http://www.ebay.com/itm/VINTAGE-AUT...ZE-US7-EU56-/142175120986?hash=item211a4c2e5a

"Orion", 58cm, Crown 6 inches Open, Brim 2 3/8 inches probably late 1930s. No company mark and most likely made of wool or wool / fur mix. This is a common man's hat that rarely survived. The felt has a great color and shine to it and can be modeled into any shape. Also I really interesting light weight liner. This is one of four hats that I recently found from the same source.

Absolutely gorgeous hat. You must have a special radar of some sort to dig up all these magnificent hats. Are those moth nibbles on the crown? That would be a shame, but still; for a hat of that age...

What I like in Steve's research is its ability to find hats that make up the historical mosaic of ancient Central Europe production.
None of these hats has a known brand, yet they were the hats of every day for the German men of eighty years ago. They are of average quality hats and affordable for ordinary people.
It is very interesting because it tells us what were the tastes and market proposals at a time when the hat was an essential accessory to dress.
My favorite is the Orion, but all have a subtle charm in telling their story and that of the costume in a vanished era.
Bravo Steve!
