I should've known a thread for Geo.I. Eakle existed. Found this rare gem and had the means to procure from a fellow hatter. Silverbelly felt. Paper thin sweat. This piece simply oozes class to me.

Let's start open.

Intricate ribbon and brim adornment!

One of the few hand bashes it holds without steam, given the softness of the felt.

The felt has a soft hand. Easily shaped. But needs a shot of steam to hold a more intricate bash..

Dobbs fedora. Probably with more speculation than is necessary.

This looks to be, based on the liner crest, the fact that it has the block depth listed on the label (4??? Short! That's not what I'm used to seeing in the pics of this label!!!!), and the plastic tip protector, from the early 50s? If the protector wasn't there, I'd think it was a mutant 40s model. From what I've seen (thanks to the Hatted Professor page), the plastic tip started in the 50s.... If the block depth wasn't there, I'd be confident that it was a 60s model. Certainly from the lower end of the spectrum, it is still in great condition.

If you saw this already on the Dobbs Diner thread, apologies! Just pretend that you read it in stereo! :p
