Now I understand!

The reason why the jacket belt's pinstripes don't match with the back's stripes is because they can't. The back is gathered into pleats at the belt. The belt itself isn't gathered and pleated, of course, so its stripes can't be where the pleated back's stripes are.

.

Aha, brilliant. I didn't even think of that.

Would a belted back give you about an inch extra in fit that did not show up in the measurment of the front? I know it is more of an affectation, but belted back and vented jackets really are quite comfortable.

I don't know about the belted aspect changing it, but the back is very full-cut due to the pleats, and of course, the action back has a full 1" plus of movement. Not that you would want it stretched open all the time. I measured with it perfectly flat, of course.

Thanks, texasgirl.

FOR THE RECORD, guys - my father and I had a little dispute over color, which ended up with the suit being brought out into the bright winter sunlight. Glad I did! It isn't exactly navy - it is a blue with a distinctive greenish tint. Really an unusual color. I tried to get a true-color pic in the sun, but couldn't. The coloration is just too subtle.

In other words, this won't replace/compete with your other navy pinstripe suits. It will coexist in peace.

Right. The belt doesn't do it. But the fact that the belt holds in a bloused back, which gives about an extra inch, plus the fact that you can wear it a little snugger without having to worry about restricted mobility when reaching forward.

Sure, twist the knife, too! ;)

(Would someone please bid this thing up to an obscene level so that I don't take a shot at it? Thank you!)

Huh. Thank you!! In ladies' wear, this color wouldn't even approach the vibrancy of teal. You gents and your nuances! I already fiddled with the auction a tad ... I will adjust it further with your excellent advice!

Gotta say, the lighting in my house kinda sucks - this color really is striking in the light. Of course, you all seem to know that...

This means that your suit is teal blue ... which makes it rarer still and even more desirable. You might wish to edit your auction description on eBay and mention the fact that it's a "rare and sought after teal blue".

I'll play devil's advocate here and say that I don't even like this suit all that much. [huh] The dark color and hard-edged pinstripe, plus the sporty cut, just say "movie gangster" to me, and I personally am very sensitive to that stereotype.

If this were a lighter color, polychrome, herringbone, or textured pattern I would probably love it.

You're most certainly entitled to your opinion. And ya' know, it IS from Chicago. He didn't say WHICH organization his father was moving up in. ;)

Here's a few photos to whet your appetite!

WOW! Someone who actually uses the correct word when writing this phrase! :eusa_clap :eusa_clap :eusa_clap

And no, I'm not being facetious. For some reason it drives me nuts when I see "wet your appetite." Must be one of the reasons a couple of aptitude tests suggested "Editor" as a career path! lol

Cheers,
Tom

P.S. And what a suit! I think it would fit me... if I were to lose the 100 extra pounds I'm carrying around. :( Maybe if it were in my closet it would act as an incentive...;)

Hmm, if I gained 15 pounds, cut 2 inches off my legs and found a few hundred dollars on the sidewalk I would be all over that suit.

That IS a gorgeous suit. I, on the other hand, need to gain some weight to fit into it. And I would be perfectly willing to, but then there's still the matter of needing an extra couple hundred bucks, which I couldn't simply "gain". *Sigh*

This ends tomorrow~

BUMP!

Just in case anyone who loves this suit didn't notice, it has received only ONE bid for the minimum.

I'm shocked!

In ANY CASE, this ends tomorrow at 4pm PST - SHARP! Don't miss it guys, I really don't think you'll see another like it.

Did I remember to mention that the pants have slant pockets? I rather don't think I did...
