While rooting around an Anteek/Junque store in Dutchess County NY with my girlfriend, we found this interesting stove. A little Googling revealed that it's a Kalamazoo Stove Company product from about 1936. It uses both gas AND wood. It obviously needs some serious work, but we're thinking it might make a great addition to the kitchen of her charming little 1832 farmhouse. One concern I have is that I think the fire box front is missing. But there are a couple of good wood stove repair specialists out there, so we'll see how it works out. Anyhow, I think it's super cool.

Melissa's fingers can be seen peeking out from the left side.

Here's what the left side looks like behind the door. I found a very similar one for sale on Ebay, and it has a cover over the part that's open in this picture.

I concur, I think your missing the front. You should be able to fabricate something out of a piece of 1/4" steel plate that would work. It would have to be made to where you can remove it to add more wood during use. There may have been a wood box that slid in there too. And an ash shaker.

That is a great stove! We had one very much like that when I was a kid. It was awesome, and I miss it all the time. I've been looking for one since I've been an adult... so GREAT find! Enjoy! It will be gorgeous when it's cleaned up (and you'll HAVE to show us!).

Yep! I think you're onto it! I still bet you can rig up some kind of door!!! Ypumight be able to get away with a piece of 1/8 " Plate. It would be easier to "dimple" the two bottom corners to fit in the hinge spots. If nothing else, you could have something spot welded in place to act with the hinges and the top. That would be much easier.

Here's the woodstove in my cabin up in Colorado! Love cooking breakfast before striking out for the trout!!!
