I went to the Saturday afternoon horse show and rodeo at the Southwestern Stock Show in Ft. Worth this weekend and wore my Bushman while helping my friends show their Fine Harness horse. The ONLY fedora style hats I saw were on the heads of the American Saddlebred, Tennessee Walker and Morgan exhibiter males.
As far as the breakdown of hat styles and colors in the stands and on the grounds, I'd have to say 95% were western felts, 5% "gimme" caps. Style wise things break down to age brackets with my generation (50 -up) favoring LBJ's, & Ft. Worth creased Rancher styles with probably 90% in Silverbelly the rest in Black.
In the 30/40s yo's a bit larger brimmed Cattleman creased westerns with about a 50/50 split btw, Silverbelly/Black.
It was in the younger 20 somethings that I saw the biggest variety of styles and colors. I saw lots of Gus creased Buckaroo styles in a wide variety of colors from browns to black with most in the 4 " + brim widths.
I remember back in the '60s when all the girls wore shiney bright colored "cowgirl" outfits with tight pants, matching boots and felt hats dyed to match the pants and shirts/jackets. Not many of those today. :)
There were other Akubra's on the heads of some of the Aussie exhibitors I met, mainly Cattleman and Territory sized and styled in mostly the Fawn colors and most with some sort of braided Kangaroo leather hat band.
Was an interesting hat filled day :)

What is a FW crease look like?

Jeff

It's a US Cattleman with a dent across the front and back just below the two side dents. As the name implies it was used ( the story goes) first by Leddy Bros. in Ft.Worth first back in the 30's and has been a regional thing mostly found on smaller brimmed westerns favored by guys my age and older around here on dress westerns usually.

Notice the slight crease horizontally in front.

Don't feel alone, here, Monbla. When I Googled "Fort Worth Crease" I found plenty of references to it all showing a crease like the one I posted earlier. So, it is true that at least some parts of the country call it a "Fort Worth Crease" no matter what some chart on the Internet calls it.
