Good post Dude and right on. Everyone has favorites and has the freedom to say so here on the FL as much as they want without being attacked. I can go on and on about a leather or style that I like and prefer and could care less if BJ or Maitia dislike my continuing enthusiasm or disagree with my choices. HD
Thank you for saying that, HD. There are a wide variety of opinions and experiences here and I love that. I would not be wear I am in my leather jacket journey if it were not for the Lounge. There is a reason why I have linked it in my blog, mentioned it in the podcast I do, etc. I still strongly believe that good forums like this one are the best place to learn about passions such as leather jackets, boots, jeans, and everything else (though Reddit doesn't count :D )

Well keep contributing your passion. Good fitting jackets photos that are enjoyed here in the outerwear section. That's why most of us are here..for photos and discussion about leathers and jackets. Why the two complainers are here, I have no idea. Seems they may be only here to enjoy disruption and scolding others. Especially you.

Are you really going to start this again? First of all, I am not saying Shinki is the best. I say it is my favorite. This is what I say on my blog and on here. As far as talking about how great Freewheelers is, you only have to read around the forum to know that I am not the only one who believes they are at or at least near the top when it comes to construction and finishing.

I apparently need to clarify that my point about Freewheelers doing the finishing on Shinki was not me trying to say that Freewheelers is better in any way because of it. It is just something that I am pretty confident is true based on my conversations in Desolation Row (Freewheelers' flagship store) and with other trusted sources. I never said this makes Freewheeler's better than other makers or other brands that use Shinki, it just means they have colors/finishes that are different from other brands.

What does my location have to do with it? I wear leather jackets over 150 days out of the year and probably closer to 180. It's 74F right now and I still wore one for the first 4 hours of the day- and it's June!

Let's summarize: You twist my words by claiming I say Shinki is the best, when even on my blog I only say that it is my favorite. You complain about me talking about how great Freewheelers is when I am far from the only member on this forum who has expressed how excellent their construction quality and design is. Lastly, you call me a "kid" which is clearly derogatory and say I can't be an "authority" on leather jackets because of where I live despite not realizing how often I do wear leather jackets.

My goodness, if you are going to try to discredit me, at least put some effort into it, especially when you're pretty new here.

Is there a leather you think is better than Shinki? It's rhetorical, we know the answer. I'm willing to bet if we slipped Horween leather into Japan and it came out of the Shinki Tannery, you'd have a jacket on right now sweating your tits off in sunny southern California. Large assumption, but if vegas put odds on it, I'd say they would be in my favor.

I didn't complain. Just stating a fact that if there is some obscure shop in Japan making denim or leather coats, you're going to insure us that we know how great it is compared to everyone else's inferior products.
Lastly, you call me a "kid" which is clearly derogatory and say I can't be an "authority" on leather jackets because of where I live despite not realizing how often I do wear leather jackets.
How old are you? Early 20's? To me, that's a kid. It wasn't meant to be derogatory.
My goodness, if you are going to try to discredit me, at least put some effort into it, especially when you're pretty new here.
Ah yes, the I'm new and shouldn't question more established members statement. Not my first rodeo I assure you. I've been around superdenim, denimbro and the like for many, many years. I'm just not much of a big poster (obviously), but far from new to this game.

I'm not trying to discredit you. I'm stating a fact from someone outside looking in. The guys I ride with would make you cry if you think I'm being hard on ya. I get made fun of because I ride with a Schott. My point is, it's hard to take a young man (better?) serious on leather jackets when the purpose of wearing them is for warmth and protection all the while you live in southern California. You might as well live in Mexico. You're "that guy" who wears a leather jacket when it's t-shirt and shorts weather because you think you look cool. Don't be "that guy".

Wow, so now you're going for the tough guy routine.

"The guys I ride with would make you cry"... what is wrong with you?

I have never even spoken to you before? What did I do to make you so angry?

What is the point of this?

Apparently I have a lot more enemies than I thought I did. I will take that as a good thing. I will keep writing my reviews, doing my podcast, making videos, and posting my thoughts on this forum and I will continue trying to encourage people to join forums and enjoy leather jackets.

I have no idea what your posts are trying to accomplish other than belittle me, but given the warm response from other members here (thank you to everyone for that) I don't think you're doing a great job.

I don't intend to stir up drama, but I feel a need to side with @dudewuttheheck. @Maitiu, I truly cannot fathom why you would come and post so aggressively and insultingly toward someone who contributes a lot of great stuff to this forum and many other venues.

I know @dudewuttheheck personally and, yes he is opinionated, but I think anyone who has ever reached out to him would attest that he is a stand-up guy who is always willing to help, who simply wants to share his passion for leather jackets and luxury products of all sorts.

Your insulting comments toward him, implying that he can't tell the difference between Shinki or Horween, think for himself regarding his preferences, or that he is "unserious" by-definition because he lives somewhere hot, are frankly ridiculous. Furthermore, I would recommend that you consider different perspectives because your assumption that the purpose of wearing leather jackets is solely for "warmth and protection" ensures that you will never understand the many people here who have other preferences.

Just as a follow-up (not sure if anyone cares now), but I called the Shinki tannery, and now I know what's going on.

I have to say, that a non Japanese guy can go to Japan on holiday, walk into a store and buy a jacket like any other customer, and without speaking any Japanese walk out with 'contacts' that give him insider information is remarkable.
Maybe only people who have lived and done business in Japan can grasp how remarkable this is.

@Big J, I'm not sure where you got that someone had "insider" information or was passing it off as anything more than something they were told, but nevertheless, I think we would all be interested to hear what you were told from Shinki.

No, not at all. Nothing tough about me or what I'm saying. If you are taking what I'm saying that way, I can't help that. That isn't my intention.
"The guys I ride with would make you cry"... what is wrong with you?
You seem to be upset at my first post. So, knowing that, if you were to hang around my friends during a discussion like this, it wouldn't be pretty if you were upset at what I said previously. What's wrong with you? You good? Or?
I have never even spoken to you before? What did I do to make you so angry?
Again, I'm not angry at all. Quite the opposite actually, I'm sitting here smiling and a little entertained by this conversation.
What is the point of this?
It's a forum. Where topics and opinions are had. With that being said, I gave my opinion as did others about the topic at hand and the previous posts that were deleted. I imagine more posts will be deleted again, lol.

Get off it Maitiu. I'm not a young guy or kid and most likely older than you. Your routine is tiresome and doesn't fit in with this forum. Perhaps you don't either. We can debate and even be very passionate here but personal attacks and disruption continued ad nauseam is ridiculous.
I guess I have a different view of what a personal attack is. Maybe you're right, my attitude and way of life is much different than many here. I'll keep that in mind for future posts.

You don't even know what many of us have experienced and what our way of life has been. I was a Drill Sgt during Viet Nam and coached MMA locally in my mid 50s. Rode MCs with and tried to control a bunch of hooligans around the same time. Thing is I tend to be able recognize what certain groups expect and what they don't want to put up with. Turmoil and disruption here is frowned on. If you want that fun there are plenty of groups and forums elsewhere that you would enjoy.

come on man, we are all have differences in the way we dress, the way we express fondness toward something, some people are easier to be a fan of things they like, let it be a sport team, movie genre, brand of items, books, etc. some others never become a fan of anything. just accept other people do what they do, dress what they like, dont try to convert them into what you do unless they ask to.

@HD, how did you feel about serving in the continental US during the Vietnam War? Did you want to go?

Good point. We all have different likes and opinions. I've always marveled at the creativity of the jackets you post. Although they are not my style, that look great on you. I have a very narrow preference band but love what others like Dude bring to the forum. I don't get all this conflict over different preferences.
