Freewheelers Bodie Jacket in Vintage Brown Deerskin

I had to sell my size 42 Sunset in deerskin and I wanted something in deerskin to replace it because of how incredibly comfortable the leather is.

Apparently the Bodie is an old model that they have not offered in quite some time. I'm glad they brought it back because the style and measurements suit me quite well. It's a nice and short jacket and I love the collar on it. Size 38 fits me well. A 40 would likely have been much too long in the sleeves.

The only downside is the leather color. It's quite dull and boring. I really don't like it. However, they say that it should become more red and less dull over time which if so, will make the jacket pretty much perfect for me. Photos from Freewheelers of the jacket aging are quite promising. If my jacket turns out like that one, I will be thrilled.

Comfort is unsurprisingly amazing on this one with the deerskin and the full flannel lining. I have said this before and will say it again: I do not understand why many makers think they need to put cotton drill in the sleeves and only do the flannel in the body. It never snags on anything and is vastly more comfortable than stiff cotton drill. This is such a wonderful jacket to wear with just a t shirt.

Fit is fantastic. The sleeves are only a little too long. They're actually shorter than those of my Mister Freedom Campus jacket which is great. The jacket is snug and again, will not be for layering, but as I have said many times, layering is completely pointless for me. If I need to be warm, I can fit a sweatshirt easily under my Caboose jacket.

Personally, I think this jacket fits better on me than anything else that I have. I love how short it is. It fits with my wardrobe so incredibly well. Also, as much as I don't love the leather, the dullness of the color makes it quite versatile and while it doesn't match perfectly with any of my boots, it goes with almost everything because its lack of saturation means it doesn't really clash with anything which is cool.

Overall, I am thrilled with this. I went back and forth on buying it for a while, but I'm glad I got it. Summer is going to be torture waiting to wear these two new jackets (plus waiting for my Field Leathers to be finished.)

Yes I’m also team brushed cotton or moleskin or anything soft in the sleeves too. It’s an upgrade over regular cotton drill for sure.
Excellent choice on your new jacket!

What a great looking jacket!
Nice and clean looking, even though it’s full of little details. If the photos are color accurate, the tone of the jacket looks good with your complexion. Just be careful leaning up on that block wall.

I agree the fit is really perfect. Looks great on you. I also agree the color is pretty boring. Not sure why you’d drop freewheelers type $ on a jacket where such an important factor as color is firmly nit to your liking.

Fit looks great Dude. I'm going to disagree on the color I think even without any patina it looks pretty good. Sure it lacks character right now but I don't find anything bad about it.

And from doing some poking while looking into the Bodie it is a re-release of when Freewheelers was Bootleggers and it was the Buena Vista model.

Can’t add anything on looks and fit: Perfect!

I do like the Color too. Full and matte? Maybe. But it does compliment the timeless vibe of the whole concept. Really unique, IMO.

Agreed! Any custom jacket I get from now on will not have cotton drill in the sleeves. I don't care what the maker says. I will insist. Thanks!

Yeah I agree that I like how the leather looks on me more than on its own.
Congratulations! Fantastic fit and looks perfect on you. Enjoy it!
Thanks! Could hardly be happier with the fit.
Looks great — congrats!
Thanks Craig!
Fits great on you, proportionally makes you taller. I like the position of the chest pocket, cool collar lapel, and this back design too.
Yeah the shorter length suits me much better.
Great looking jacket and fit,
Amazing collar on this jacket.
Thanks! I love spread collars like on this one and the Mulholland
Looks and fits great! Love that collar! Congrats!
Thanks! I lost the Mulholland, but at least this has a similar collar. I always loved the collar.
Congrats on the jacket. Perfect fit. I like the color. Not dull to me. Has character.
The leather itself definitely has character. The color should get more character soon.
Great fit!
Thanks!

...I already explained it in the post, but I'll say it again: the pics from FW I saw of the jacket after wear looked glorious. If my jacket looks even half as good as their example does then I will love the color. You can see that it is much more red. Also, the fit, style, and comfort of the jacket makes up for it. I also pointed out that I don't hate the color, it's just my least favorite aspect of it. Plus, the nice bonus I discovered is that it pairs well with more boots than any of my other jackets.

The brown is flat. Sort of reminds me of my 5 star russet in a way. If you want dude, I can make it cordo for ya:D
Maybe a little wax, oil could bring a little life to it?
Well, as the photo above shows, some natural wear should get it to wear I want it to be. However, if not, I may add some oil or something to it.

I don't think it's bad. I think it's just a little dull which is not bad, just not what I usually prefer. Yeah apparently it was even offered in Yellow Ochre which I would love to have.

That's true. The color does match the vibe of the jacket quite well.

Much nicer jacket than I was expecting. The fit is spot on and the design is rather nice. I like the leather color fine to be honest and it's only going to get better with wear and patina. Nice pick up!

Thanks! Color certainly isn't bad and I do expect it to get better with wear. The fit, design, and comfort are the highlights right now.

I like the color and matte finish as it makes the jacket more versatile to wear. I like to have at least 1 jacket with “plain” leather to balance out when I decide to wear a “loud” outfit, so it doesn’t look like I’m trying too hard.
