Shell is also arguably not leather. It's technically the shell membrane on the horse rump so it's not normal leather from what I understand. That's what gives it such unique characteristics.
@Bamaboots Many thanks for your valuable input!Shell cordovan (or cordovan) is a type of leather commonly used in high-end shoemaking. Cordovan is an equine leather made from the fibrous flat connective tissue (or shell) beneath the hide on the rump of the horse. ... Shell cordovan has a unique non-creasing characteristic.
In the day a common accessory for shell cordovan shoes was a smooth roasted venison bone which was used to help smooth any creases on the vamp of the shoe.
It’s not that it doesn’t crease at all. It’s more like waves or rolls. It takes time because of how stiff they are. But when they do wave/roll they take a very unique look. Still might not be for you but I thought it valuable to distinguish that it does eventually take shapes. Just not the typical boot/shoe look."non creasing" hmm, doesn't sound like it's for me then.
Thanks for the replies gents.
"triply leather the center is thin horn like shell...", what does that mean? sounds a lot like marketing ploy there rather than real shell...I was surprised to find this.
