Five Star Leather Jackets

As you learn more about clothes and specifically jackets you’ll wish you had gotten a better fitting jacket at no additional cost by taking the time to measure a jacket that fits you well and providing measurements. This is how they measure so measure like this and you’ll be happy with the result. These are measurement photos for my trucker and I’m 6ft 180lbs for reference.
That looks really good. Have you received it yet? I might get this same jacket from them. I’ll wait for your opinion.

Has anyone else tried the Cal copy from 5star yet?

I've been interested on a CHP type jacket for a while but I'm wondering how well they resize the patterns when its copied from a larger size jacket.

I'm also a bit of a fan of bi swing backs and wondering if it would be risky to try to add that on it when the pattern was copied from a Cal with no bi swing back?

Also, does the 5star steerhide topcoat feel "tacky", as in if you rub the leather on itself does it squeak?
Beware of sleeve width when ordering these. They seem to do a good job when scaling the patterns but sleeve widths seems to be the thing you have to take care of yourself. I have ordered one (with too wide sleeves) and the sleeve problem seems to be consensus over the forum.

A bit too high, yes. The standard problem with 5*. Just like the sleeves, which are often a tad too wide.
Can only be fixed if the details are specified exactly.
Remember: 5* are producers, not designers.
5* graciously agreed to remake my jacket.

@KBlake Because of the chest pocket? Did you specify it correctly but they made it incorrectly? By remake you mean for free or the usual 50% off?
I didn’t specify the chest pocket height. They just made it absurdly high. Even higher than usual. Also, the jacket arrived with a stain on the back and they initially told me to take it to a leather specialist, which I didn’t think I should have to do. They remade it free because I was going to send it back but didn’t think I should have to pay for that.

I ordered my first jacket. Fingers crossed. It's strange to know that the chances seem to be quite high that I'll have some kind of unforeseen issue, but it's sort of a rite of passage to give it a go, right? Here’ s hoping, besides....what I wanted could never be found in my size.

Maybe they will finally learn where to place that pocket!

I wanted to post my 5* collection because I think I have more than anyone else. You might wonder why I’ve gotten so many instead of getting one or two from a superior maker. The reason is that perfect fit and customization is of utmost importance to me. I have never handled jackets from other makers besides Schott, Vanson and Cal, and I’m pleased with the quality of my 5* jackets (obviously). In the future I’ll try Simmons Bilt and Aero and I am in the FL queue for about a year from now.

That can change quickly ;)
I had 12 jackets and vests from 5* and now I have only one shearling vest. For this I still have all Aeros and some are added.

@KBlake your 5 Stars all look terrific! The fits are really, really good! I am in the same boat as @MrProper , sold all but one 5 Star (the wool jacket) that is just like yours. For whatever reason that one fits me better than all the leather jackets I had built.

You’re latest whiskey colored jacket is a masterpiece. The leather sits so good. What is it? Almost all of Five Star’s Leather literally just flops and has no actual shape to it, but this one looks different.

I agree, the last one looks absolutely terrific, the cut is up there with the best, no matter the maker.

It's just their whiskey horsehide.

Hello,
I ended up giving my first wool jacket to a family member, rightfully it fit him better. I then shot my shot at another attempt to improve my first jacket. I never had a half belted jacket, and I think Ton312 absolutely knows what he’s doing and I wish I knew what he know when sizing this (ask him if you do want to order this jacket) because the hem looks like it should of been wider, but “you live and you learn”. I shot my shot with a different leather color: seal brown HH 1.2mm, removed the side adjusters (should of replaced them with buckled straps), forgot to raise up elbow panel higher and did the half belt in leather per a Wool jacket I saw on the internet. I love the result, here are some images: (wearing a tank top because it was warm today, but layered it looks best). This is a solid jacket, my favorite from Five Star Leather and I think while my fitting is just slightly off it has tremendous potential if they removed the belt straps for buckled versions and lifted up the elbow pads. Five Star should look into acquiring an affordable source of Melton Wool 50/50 Wool and Polyester Blend would be perfect for Durability and affordability purposes. Plaid patterns would be amazing along with jacket patterns. Seeing some old school JC Penny Sport-clad or Hercules patterns on their store would be a dream because their work is actually really good.
