Bit more photo spam since I managed to get out in the rain and the shipping wrinkles are sorting themselves out. I‘m not sure if the back could be less ‘foldy’ with different measurements without compromising mobility but I’m pretty happy with it as a first attempt at custom sizing!

(My jeans don’t seem to be *that* wonky in real life so while the hem is a little uneven I think it’s also how I‘m standing in relation to the camera!)

That jacket is really nice and I think the zip tape colour works with it. Wear and enjoy.

The monster has landed.
Definitely not a summer jacket lol
2 mm is hefty. Still wearable because not overly stiff. Nevertheless, it feels like a suit of armor.
Still need to inspect everything more closely.
Thanks @ton312 for the design and ideas, thanks @Canuck Panda for the experience with the 2 mm leather and hardware. A #5 zipper would be overstrained with the leather for sure.

At first glance it seems very uniform. I didn't notice any place that I thought was too thin. But I will examine it more closely later and look at the details.
Definitely reminds me of my old Aero CXL Cafe Racer.
This jacket definitely needs a break in time.

Looking forward to the familiar and painful jealous sting when the fit pics are posted...

@Canuck Panda I think this is a generous offer, but if you are to do it, it shouldn't be a Highwayman.

Five Star only got its enthusiast audience because Ken discovered Shawn and highlighted his work on VLJ.

At one point (they don't do this anymore), Five Star was using Aero product names and designs, despite this.

I think it would be in poor taste to send an original Ken design. Much better to send a vintage jacket. It would cost as much as your postage of the Highwayman.

Agreed. But there's no way I'd send an Aero, for the obvious price reasons. There are many HWYMans, I was talking about the Vanson one, otherwise known as the Model E, and almost every manufacturer has one. If I could find the generic pattern I would just email him that.

Don't worry, I am never the first guy one committing the crime. Not the second one either.

Great post @Canuck Panda
I don't think making sure their jacket has good pattern is a priority for 5star company, look at those dummies in FB group showing horrible fit photos (most are military jacket)who probably never handled a single jacket from premier maker, those people I believe are major customers of 5star.

My custom order has been postponed for more than one month, while I keep seeing the new jacket that based on their current pattern pops out in here, you can see their priority.

I will never order jacket based on stock pattern, instead I pay extra for custom order.

Having said that, I appreciate Shawn and his team for outstanding work on my two heavyweight CXL jacket.

I was there, about the same time last year. Right at the tail of the CHL jackets saga. Major back ups on the custom pattern. I was ghosted and I ghosted him back, until late last year.

FWIW, the patterns he did for your heavyweight jackets are very solid.

Does your new 5* have that gasoline smell?

Lucky man! Your jacket was actually cut from the better "hanging" pattern. Taller shoulder slope than Aero, and just a bit less than the almighty Vanson. That's why it "hangs" longer and there is the bunch up at the belt.
I bet this jacket hangs on your shoulders instead of your neck.
Very good.

Yes, as with all my 5*
But in the meantime, I know that it goes away quickly. I still maintain that the smell comes from those silica packets combined with the airtight packaging. I don't think the leather was freshly dyed. But maybe treated differently? Either way, the smell should be gone soon.

It's certainly comfortable around the shoulders - which is where OTR jackets usually don't fit me.

Interestingly, since I ordered this jacket 'off menu', 5* have updated their site with a number of new double riders including @MTS 's predecessor of this jacket, a horsehide non-minimalist Schott 613 type, a Cal Leathers type, a suede Lewis (I think?) type and more. Was always puzzled by their relative lack of double rider designs...
