That might go very well with my IH 25oz 888 then.
It does rather look like that DustBowl of mine (she didn't actually say I should sell it.....)

Everything General Ton said about the leather is true. While I only had the lesser tan version it has the same characteristics: springs back, natural markings. I thought the wax bugged me after washing it but it was the light colour which will get dyed black soon.

Now I must confess. I have a leather sickness. Since I saw General’s dark brown version, I just had to hoard it. Let’s be clear, the chance of me zooming down the no limit autobahn with it, is about zero. But every closet needs not only a queen but a round table of knights to guard her safety. So here it is. Also I am not as tough so I went with combination leather setup, hard and thick armor on the outside, soft and thin goat on the inside, and removable fur collar.

This package weigh 3 to 4 kg according to Shawn. Hopefully by Friday next week I will be the newest member in the 5.5 oz club.

According to Shawn, skiving it down is a simple process, so you west coasters could likely go down to 2.5oz. I will post comparison shots of the 4oz when I have it.
If the 5.5 oz gets split down to two 2.5 oz jackets, one top grain one suede, do I get the suede one for free? Haha…. JK

Very cool jacket right there. Congratz on the creativity, it looks very good.

Switching subjects real quick: Has anybody handled or owns their buffalo leather ? I'm eyeing a 1930s Cossack with their buffalo leather, but read a lot from this tread (not the whole thing) but couldn't find anything on it.

Yes and no…CXL’s memory comes from being impregnated with oil and wax and those help create a “memorized” crease. This hide doesn’t have that. The wax is just at the surface and easy to remove. It will actually absorb into the jacket or dissipate with wear. You can kind of see that in the sleeves. I’ve gotten it plenty wet with no ill effect. Water is essential in softening this thing up. I can’t imagine you could damage this hide with anything besides a chainsaw or a flamethrower. This is without question and unequivocally, the most ass kicking leather I’ve ever encountered. As far as it’s suitability for garment grade material goes, I’d say that’s personal preference, but in my opinion, yes. That said, I have already submitted my spec sheet for black, skived down to 4oz. One 5.5oz jacket is enough and I am quite sure not for everyone. I am impressed though, at how fast I’ve been able to soften it.

Sorry I meant memory meaning that it doesn't want to break in, crease, etc, going back to/remembering where it started.

Yes initially I feared it would never crease at all. But in short order it has shown it will crease. It’s also a very fast fader. Some close up shots of the color and grain. No sun today so a bit dark. I won’t spam the lounge any further with this jacket (until the fall:D) but needless to say I’m excited about this possibility with 5*. I can’t wait to get my black jacket made. I put on my other jackets today and have to say, it’s hard to go back. They all feel like shirts in comparison.

Jacket for life, it looks like it's got a few decades of wear. Carry on with the process pictures as its getting interesting :)

Can you tell me if SXL would be suitable for boots ? I made a Instagram account for my Chinese bootmaker buddy and I planned on sending two hides to China black and brown .
I already got someone interested in a custom boot with the sxl in black but I haven't had it in my hand yet . Shawn agreed on sending me hides every once in a while for my projects .
Great question. I’ve asked for pics as soon as the next, presumably first usable, batch comes in. My gut says it will be similar to the brown and a teacore with ultra fast fades.

I’m not a boots guy but I can’t see why these hides wouldn’t work for boots. My jacket is as thick as any boots I’ve owned, but not as stiff.
