Five Star Leather Jackets

Hope you can keep this jacket for a long time.
It will certainly out live me and with the low impact price tag there’s no good reason to sell it. Hard to ignore a bespoke fit jacket for $350. I can’t resist the allure of totally taking the wheel on design and specs. I also think Shawn knows how I like stuff to fit. I’m glad to have been introduced to them.

Wow. When I said it couldn’t be as thick or stiff as anything I’ve had before I was very much mistaken. Makes LW’s 4oz feel like cheese paper. This is almost comically thick. And insanely stiff. I do fell like it will soften eventually but as a warning to anyone who wants to try…it will take extreme commitment. The pattern and cut are superb. Ironically one of the best jackets I have in terms of ease of movement. I’m hesitant to post fit pics b/c it’s so holding its own shape right now it’s not even funny. Will get better shots in 80-100 years when it’s a bit more broken in. It does have a pleasant aroma similar to cxl. I should also add that it creaks. It doesn’t squeak. It creaks.

Looking good. Real good actually. Maybe get it wet??? Don't know, but yeah, that's going to take a team to break down that jacket. Maybe put each sleeve in opposing paint shakers and set on high.

Chest pocket placement is a little high, which I think you noted before. They don't seem to flag anything. Part of it might be cultural in that they're assuming you know what you want, and maybe see it as being rude, but would be nice for them to note "hey, that whatever measurement seems off" or "you sure you want it this way" kind of thing. That's why I've been a little hesitant to order again from them. While the bang for buck ratio is through the roof, you make a couple mistakes on a jacket or two and you could have just bought a higher end jacket.

You definitely belong to Johnson leather club, mock-up jacket + potentially a free remake jacket.

Wow! It looked good on Shawn and now better on you!
Dark brown looks a whole lot better than the natural tan. Honestly I was expecting the natural tan to be exactly like Horween natural CXL, but it didn’t turn out that way. But this dark brown looks legit. I can’t wait to get mine.
Your fit looks spot on too. Shawn’s pattern is good for mobility but you spec it better, well done!
Now can’t wait to see Wardo’s bootlegger…

Chest pocket is def a bit too high and I did notice that. In all fairness I did not spec the height, only the length. It’s important to remember to spec every aspect, and in that instance I was lazy. That said I don’t think it detracts from the jacket. I’ve seen all makers do the same thing to varying degrees. But it certainly is a detail I failed to call out.
I have a hard time thinking about going back to other makers, given the level of input I have with five star. That said, I will certainly live and die by my own sword.

FiveStar is unlike all other makers that:
1. The label will read made in Pakistan instead of USA or EU or Japan.
2. They have the fastest turn around time, but don’t advertise it.
3. His willingness to try anything new, in an attempt to get his customer what we asked for.
4. A truly customized jacket sized to your specs, almost bespoke.
5. 350 dollars price tag.

I too ordered mk 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and on. But I don’t see it as a fault of 5 star or me as a customer. I went through and is still going through the same journey with other makers, in an attempt to find the perfect jacket. The only difference is price and time.

5* knows you so well already, that fit looks fantastic. The SXL looks good. Can't wait to see your next jacket with them

looks good in the pictures.
But it also looks like it takes three generations to wear it every day to even begin to break in the jacket.
i'm afraid i'm too much pussy for a jacket made of this leather. I'll wait and see how it develops for you. lol

Haha, an optimistic estimate on the break-in time :D
It looks great! I love the colour in the sun and the leather looks amazing but that thickness is too much for my taste. Thanks for the heads up and enjoy it!

I think if Shawn could replicate this hide and subtract 2oz (somewhere in the 3-4oz range) it would be perfect. It is incredibly thick. It will definitely soften but I don’t think this jacket will ever drape in any way. It’s armor for sure.

One thing to consider for those ordering this hide, while going trim in the body would be OK, trim sleeves would not. If I could do it over again I would add 1/2” to the elbow circumference for ease is bending my arms. I’d also subtract 1/2” in length. I’ll post some updated photos this weekend, I plan on crumpling and wearing it as much as possible indoors to see if I can get it to yield a bit.

Mine shipped today. So glad I ordered dark brown vs. the tan, that didn't appeal to me at all.

Regarding break-in, a poster said get it wet - I've read about guys taking a shower in Aero jackets for just this reason.

I'm thinking if this jacket seems suitable for me, I'll ask next for a black "Shawnexel" cafe racer style. Again, similar to Aero.

The fast build time and custom options are what set 5* apart for sure. It's quite a combo. If he refines his leather even more, he will get more business than he can handle. I figure you need to buy while you can.

3 years ago, I ordered a beautiful pair of bespoke boots made in Indonesia. A one man production. The most glorious boots I ever had and they cost $225 USD. Then he was featured in an online fashion magazine, and now he has a one year waiting list, and even then he draws names to see who he will build for next.

It's very possible such a scenario could happen with 5*, so buy now while you can. Don't take for granted the back and forth with customization, the price, etc, because once the hipsters discover them, it could all end.

I think it will take time but eventually it will break in just like an old baseball glove does. I want one in black. Wish I knew how to figure all the measurements out. Wonder if he could duplicate a jacket that’s sent to him. Could he let’s say clone an Aero Ridley ?

Hi, my B3 Body - D1 customized Collar Vest Sheepskin is at home.

First of all, I wanna thank to MrProper, his advices were extremely helpful. As many of you know, you must provide ton of info to 5* in order to get what you want.

Here we go with the pics:
