Why not!? I think it looks terrific and it is a huge improvement!
More about the hassle of having to get it altered, the overall cost now, and the alterations not 100% correcting the issues. You know what its like, invest a lot of skin in it and the details that most people don’t and won’t see still aren’t perfect.
However, I can wear it now and not feel like I’m wearing a night dress, so that’s moving forward.

Yeah I hear you. For what it’s worth I think it looks really good, especially with the corrections you applied.

I was talking to Shawn about ordering a vest, got almost to the end and then his disappeared and hasn't responded in almost two weeks. Is that the normal communication pattern at 5 star? I've sent him several follow ups but no response.

He ghosted on me last fall for more than a week. Eventually, he surfaced and we got my jacket done. I guess, just be patient.

I’ve had to have a hissy fit with him a couple times. I was ready to pull the pin and asked a fellow member here via DM, and he counselled patience.
My experience was ask three questions and you get an answer to one. Make the queries simple. One question at a time. I use whatsapp and could see when he was online or not. I’m on PST and he seemed to respond best around midnight or later my time. You have to ask if it’s worth it or not.

Trimmed the front back and sides. It’s not perfect, but mostly doesn’t look like I’m wearing a shirt anymore. Am I happy? Nope, but this is as good as I’m going to get.
My 5* exercise is now over, Aero Sheene fit jacket arriving soon!

I think that now looks great! I can understand why this experience would sour you to Fivestar and not want to go there again. But that jacket does not only look alright now, it looks really good. Honestly I don’t think you’ll get a nicer jacket in this style with a custom Aero.

He's probably getting so many messages on so many channels by now that he might lose track of it.
I communicate via Facebook messenger and it works well.

It’s not that I’m soured on 5*. I’m more pissed at myself for not bird dogging a couple details like I should have.
I understand why so many here go back for a 2nd, 3rd or more jacket. Once you nail the design and fit, it’s a very good value proposition.
My expectations were probably unreasonable to begin with, thought I’d get the perfect jacket first time. I do think if I went back, I would nail it. I’d know what not to assume. If they had Horween CXL or a heavier leather then I probably would.
It’s all a learning process.

Just keep taking pics and upload them here then, because that looks pretty much perfect now from where I'm sat. Great recovery.

Hi,

quick question for he Café-Racer specialists here:

As I do not have a similarly cut jacket available, I was wondering if there was a usual "conversion" from body measurements, to the ones to be given to five star (mainly arm hole, biceps, etc) - for the chest, as suggested on their website, I took my measurements + 10 cm and had planned to do the same for waist (maybe +8 to keep in line with the %-ages).

For the jacket, I was thinking of a reddish-brown heavy leather, clean upper back, shoulder seam and sleeve seam to be in line and (something I would never have thought of before) rounded shoulders.

Any recommendations what I should absolutely not be forgetting to make the first (and if it works surely not last) order a decent experience would be highly appreciated

The dimensions depend on how comfortable or tight you want it to be. I prefer a trim fit and I have stated a hem of 49 cm with measured 97 cm hip (including belt). For P2P I use 58 cm for a measured 110 cm chest exhaled.
If I want to layer or the material is thicker then I add 1 or 2 cm.
And rounded shoulder is my standard since my cossack jacket with pointy shoulders.

I would like to have sufficient room for movement in the arms that the Jacket could actually work for riding a bike (not the pedaling kind ;) ) but a trim fit in general.

Looking at the measurements I took: For a 114cm chest, I had planned P2P of 60, and as my widest part of the stomach is at 97cm, I had figured 52, but looking at your figures, might go with 50 instead.

Any hints for the sizing of the arms based on body measurements? With the zipper closed, I would like the cuffs / forearms not to be too wide (+2 cm or so on the left to accommodate a watch) but would not want to butter my arms every time I plan to put on the jacket either.

I use Facebook messenger and when he’s on-line we get consistent dialogue. It’s the only medium I now use with Shawn, email took a lot longer.

For many of us there is also a significant time difference when communicating with him. Last time I spoke to him about a jacket I didn't even go for it was 2 AM where he was.

I have a 20 cm wrist and order 12 cm cuffs closed and 14 cm cuffs open
