That will happen on most leathers, it is normal and there is really nothing you can do about it.

Well you could just buy a nylon jacket instead....

True, but if you rub that lighter patch with your finger, it's gone.

No way to do that with pigment dyed

when I ordered my 5 Star months back, I did ask Shawn about leather odor as I had seen some posts about it. He said it had to do with the way the particular leathers he was using where processed and that that problem has been taken care of. His suppliers either don't use that process anymore or he is using different suppliers.

That's how vegetable tanned full aniline leather is dyed. They toss the hides around in huge drums to allow the dye to be thoroughly soaked up by the leather.

I know they are much thinner than cow or horse hide...in a general sense. Might be able to find a big beast of a buck with thicker skin to source. But I can’t comment on exact measurements. So I don’t know if this is average or not, might be even thinner than normal deer hide, might be average. But yeah deer tends to be thinner.
