Got shipped today .
I might need a new slider because it is huge .But I wanted to make it heavy duty .1.4-1.6 mm goat black . Asked for a heavy thick hide and judging by the photos Shawn delivered

I think Shawn's goat is a maximum of 1.3 mm. Or did he create something new?

I don't know I just wrote him 1.4 .I wrote 1.4-1.6 because hides vary in thikness. It looks very thick .I don't know if the IMG host worked here. I would upload some more pics where you can see the folded edges

First time poster here, y'all!

Sometime ago I got this idea in my head that I need a leather jacket to complement my inevitable arrival here at the middle age leagues, and while vigorously googling about the subject I stumbled upon this thread here, which inspired me to order my first custom made leather jacket from Five Star Leathers. So thanks to all of the contributors here, I guess.

So after some initial Whatsapp-conversations with Shawn, threshing through my existing wardrobe and measure taping my older jackets I ordered this safari jacket, with unabashed design cues taken of the two best known Scottish six days trials motorcycling jackets, in russet veg tan goatskin, antigue brass hard ware and seal brown stitching with cotton twill lining.

With just basic understanding of leathercrafts, I'd have to say that I'm quite satisfied with the most aspects of the jacket, stitching seems to be well done, leather doesn't have any defects on visible surfaces and hardware seems sturdy enough. Only two smallish flaws that I've noticed; the belt that came with the jacket had not nearly enough holes to actually tighten around my waist, but that's easily enough corrected with few minutes of DIY. Even the second flaw isn't actual flaw per se, but the feel of the veg tan goat doesn't really resemble vegetable tanned leather I've had handled previously, but is more akin to chrome tans.

But as a whole it's a great jacket, especially when considering the price point.

I just told him 25cm arm opening and 12cm cuff opening.I didn't specify anything else because I didn't have anything that fits perfectly as a reference .I will send him a packeage for my luftwaffe project anyway in a few weeks so I would send it back for alterations if I needed too .I rather have it a bit tubular then too slim and tapered .But I would have thought they would atleast taper it from the elbow down to 12cm .They tapered it in the middel of the forearm lol.
Maybe I will get it tweaked with the inseam of the sleeve myself.I am building a leather sewing machine with a walking foot .

The one thing that I would add is that I don't know how they measured the jacket . . .

I took 3xs which would have been a 4inch spread to my measurements but the jacket measurements are with a 6 inch spread .Shawn knew my chest measurements from WhatsApp messages before. I wonder how this happens .Either they only measure the inside without the outside parts between the body or they went one template size up after requesting a 25 cm armhole .I didn't go custom and only paid the normal retail price.Oh well let's see. I might even be happier now bcause it now matches my size 36 A2 .

That’s a nice design, and looks very good on you. Classy!
I’m curious, did you supply the buttons? When Shawn was building my jacket last month he was adamant he could only supply a 19mm horn button in black. Given Pakistan is the biggest supplier of horn buttons in the world, I found that disappointing.

All of the hardware, snaps, buttons and the buckle were originally from Five Star, so I didn't need to supply anything.

Buttons are bit bigger than 19mm, though, 21-22mm in diameter and of beige like colour, something akin reverse turtlebone if that's even a thing.

Exactly what I requested of Shawn, a 22mm button in a contrasting lighter colour. No can do he said. Strange.

It seems that they do not carry excessive amounts in their storage, as I noticed that after my order of russet veg tan jacket they removed said leather from their website as an option. And when I asked about their colour variants in buffalo Shawn offered first seal and russet, but corrected it to be seal and distressed brown instead.
