First Real Jacket: Vanson 30's Half Belt

Hi everyone. First time poster, long time lurker. I've been looking for my first nice leather jacket for some time now. Something versatile, classy, and able to be worn everyday. In order to find that perfect one I was even thinking about flying to Seattle so I could try on every jacket that insurrection had on hand. Turns out there was no need. A company called Logans Closet is close enough to me that I could try on one of their proprietary designs that they have made by Vanson. The result is what you see below. A 1930's halfbelt with button cuffs and a nice big collar. I don't think I have ever seen button cuffs on a Vanson and I certainly haven't seen this collar. The hide is their normal competition weight steerhide and I think the color is called m19. I love this jacket.

If you want you can roll up the cuffs. These are waxed cotton on the inside.

It is slim fitting, fairly short, with long sleeves . I believe the designer said it came from an original HH 30's half belt he had. I think that the owner of Logans Closet/Legacy is a member here on FL.

Beautiful jacket. Vanson's brown rocks. Out of curiosity, how long did you wait for the jacket?

This is Logan's version of the surrogates jacket.

Beautiful, it's made in octagon, isn't it? This leather suits the surrogate jacket very well.

We need fit pics ;)

I thought the legacy line used a different source for leather. That's why it has a higher cost than his regular line. I believe I read this at filmjackets.

I didn't wait one second for this jacket. I got to try it on before I bought it. He has at least one other one in stock.

This color is a bit darker than it shows in those first pics. I am just repeating what I think he told me. So I'm sticking with competition weight and M19. The pics below show the color when not in direct sunlight.

Here are some fit pics. Please be kind as I have never taken a selfie before and I had not planned on it. I'm 6 ft 210 and this is a 44. I've only owned it for a day but I wouldn't change a thing.

This is a nice companion piece to Worf's scathing comments about Logan's Closet's terrible customer service - poor service that LC have become known for. I imagine your experience was different....? I'd probably buy one of these copies of a Californian half-belt myself if I knew the company could deliver each and every time in a reasonable time frame, with timely communication.

Logans Closet is only an hour and a bit away from me. I saw this jacket on ebay and sent him a message about wanting to try it on before I bought it. He agreed to meet me a few days later. We met up in a target parking lot. I tried on the 42 but it a was too tight. Fortunately he had a 44 also and that one fit perfectly. I paid him and we talked about jackets for 10 or 15 minutes. He seemed like a perfectly nice man and was very knowledgeable about his jackets. I wouldn't hesitate to do business with him again. This experience has reconfirmed something I already knew, you have to try these things on before you buy them. Measurements don't always tell the story.

Great looking piece and it fits you very well. Thanks for sharing Logan's closet, it's always nice to know of different stores.
