First post...and vintage oven/stove experts?

Hello!

I just signed up and I hope you don't mind if I pick your collective brains about my stove.

I just moved into a very beautiful vintage apartment. It was probably built around 1915 or so, and retains a lot of the original details, which I love. The kitchen, however, had been redone in the 1950's and remains the same, including the stove.

The stove is (I think) a 1950's magic chef stove, and has four burners, a oven that cooks like a dream, and then a cupboard on the right side that opens up and has one shelf. Is that a warming drawer thing? or just storage? or?

Also, it has a triangular pan that slides out underneath the oven, and I think it's a broiler.

As I was scrubbing this thing (Seriously, the stove probably hadn't been scrubbed since the 70's, it was DIRTY!) I thought about who would know about such things and I remembered this forum from a two hour sweater pattern I once downloaded...and figured some of you might have an idea.

I am in no way a stove expert but, have seen many of them from time to time. I would say that stove is from the late 40s or early 50s, and yes, the drawer that slides out from the bottom is a broiler. These older stoves did have some storage space for pots and what not, (again, not an expert) but I'm interested to see what others may say about this who may know more about Magic Chief's... I know most of us would like to see some of the other older details you mentioned about your apartment... maybe start a photo chain in the thread "Show us your vintage home".

Anyone can help this new member date and ad some insight on this beautiful stove?

Nice stove, those things were built to last. Are you sure that's not a double oven? They made them you know. You can search here for an owners manual (if you have the model #) or call their customer service for more info. Good luck. And BTW, welcome to the lounge.

Is that you in the blue dress on your blog? If so you and the dress are stunning.
I used to have an old Chambers stove. Not sure about yours but the top got very hot. These old stoves take about 4 men to move them. Heavy as can be.

I also have a vintage stove and love it.

the bottom triangular pan.. is there a flame above it? If so that's your broiler, but I don't see a knob control for it, so it might just be a sliding pan that catches grease from the oven.

You only have one oven as if the other side were an oven it too would have a vent at the top like the left side has.

It is storage or a warmer. It's a lovely stove!
