I was going to make the same comment. I haven't seen anyone selling anything in the classifieds who didn't require some form of non-chargebackable payment option like PPFF or Zelle. Seems like there's a lot more risk on the buyer's side to me  (and as a newb I don't really like seeing advice suggesting to avoid *selling* to newbs)

Then one should become a part of the community. Participate in the various threads and discussions. Contribute. Show you are here for more than just a deal on a jacket (or hat etc)

The advise to not sell to newbs is advise to avoid selling to those that just want to take advantage of the goodwill many of the members here show to their fellow members

No one is taking advantage of anyone by buying something that is offered for sale. Presumably the seller offered it for sale because they'd like to sell it, and presumably they'd like to get the highest price possible for it so-as to minimize their losses from ownership and misc costs like shipping, taxes, etc. To accomplish that, you'd want the largest pool of buyers possible.

If you reduce the pool of buyers by creating an unwarranted sense of fear around selling to new accounts, or by making new members feel unwelcome (because they haven't "contributed" enough), then items will likely take longer to find a buyer and sell at reduced prices.

Wrong. Sellers here often sell at reduced prices so that other hobbyists can enjoy the item. Learn about TFL before sharing your economic wisdom, noob.

I'm with Will on this

I see TFL as a community based selling platform. A way to work with your fellow members, and a way to help them out. Become a contributing part of the community and reap the rewards...

And as it says in the pinned post at the top of the classifieds:

Use the Classifieds, or use eBay, or use both. Do what gets you the most monetary and personal satisfaction. But remember, the members of the Fedora Lounge ALWAYS appreciate getting first crack at your treasures.

You're free to sell or not sell to whoever you want. It doesn't justify creating an unwarranted sense of fear around selling to someone merely because their account was created recently. The bigger risk is on the buyer's side to trust that an item will actually be sent *after* payment is made.

LOL

"Unwarranted sense of fear..."

Who said anything about fear. Just common sense caution when dealing with someone you don't know

Hell, there is a tread running right now that has a long time member's account seemingly hacked to make it appear as if an unscrupulous seller is said long time member but is really a scammer trying to rip people off.

Well don't you seem like a pleasant fellow /s
This is proof that you have not spent any time engaging with the forum. You are talking to someone who posts a new picture of himself looking incredibly delighted with a leather jacket on an almost daily basis—I don’t know Will but based on his jacket of the day posts I can only aspire to such a sunny outlook!

At least join in, or have a interest, did you even introduce yourself? We're not a selling site, that's the butter on the bread and is secondary

The TFL is a site where I have garnered a lot of information about everything from watches to boots to leather jackets. To me it is a forum for those who share interests in these items. The classifieds is just an extension of this and certainly when I joined, it was a place to pass on goods to similar minded people. While there have been and will continue to be disagreement among members on TFL over many matters, it is predominantly well mannered. If someone is only interested in buying and selling, then maybe this is not the place for them and they can avail of the many resell site specific for those purposes.
I hope the TFL will remain a place where knowledge is shared and opinions respected but does not become a place where profiteering is paramount. New members are always welcome as far as I am concerned but please try and keep the integrity and spirit of TFL.
