Honestly though, I know you’ve been hunting for a straight zip CHP and I hope this beauty fits you and brings joy.
Thanks. I do love the front sleeve zips on this one. Yes, I have been hunting for a straight zip cop jacket, even enlisted some prominent TFL members to keep an eye for a straight zip Star Glove for me. I think this scratches the itch, though. But it only counts if it fits. If not you get dibs, and others after you, if interested. Looks like a late fifties jacket.

@Will Zach Being I share your grailish interest in scoring a Cal Straight Zip, I think I would be even more stoked to get a California Sportswear Straight Zip like this one. Star Gloves are older vintage historic pieces in their own right. They are rare to see for sure and go for generally higher prices than this one. But these CS jackets don't just pop up very often either. And the ones that do have FLAWS and are not priced accordingly IMO. This one looks like a real score (pending fit of course). Rare jacket, decent shape, very very fair price. I hope you can check that FIT box and hit for the cycle on this one dude.

CSP jackets are as good as anything out there and better than most.

I would call them the best buy in Vintage; Quality, available, affordable.

Vintage Bates in black. Lining looks like it's been replaced. No size tag but seller says approx size 40 - always loved the look of these jackets. $374

Definitely a cool jacket, but I think Sportswear made some straight zip reproduction in the 70s. This one looks like it has a nylon or polyester lining, which might indicate a later date. Maybe I will just leave it to the expert. Either way, cool jacket.

I will post some pics when I get it, @tmitchell59 is the best in dating these things by labels and zippers, maybe he can tell us the decade. This is what I have now.

This Californian in Chrome Tanned Steerhide is later 50s with the big Talon zipper. Has the non quilted lining seen in the same time. Nylon lining was first used around 1950 and it was a big deal.

This is a very popular style for CSC as was the Chrome tanned Steerhide.

California Sportswear sold unlabeled jackets. This is early 50s through belt with a 60s replacement Talon zipper. probably a size 40/42 as measured.

Price $750. How many Bucos do we see this nice? and if so, how much? Quality is not in the label, but in the leather.

All the quality and not the price.

I've got three Buco jackets in the house. I keep telling myself I'm going to do a comparison. CSC jacket will be my first. Seeing is believing.

Great idea @tmitchell59!!!!!!!!!! A series of juicy side by sides would be very interesting to see. New angle of content for your YouTube vids too. You can do Face Offs between jackets!!! Sure there is liable to be a little bit of 'apples and oranges in a comparison of this kind but it would still be cool to see the differences and as you say, the quality is what matters. Might be very eye opening for a lot of us.
