Yes, this is very rarely seen. Once every year or two, I'd say. I have one, nice, firm horsehide. Broken zipper is a concern, but they are broken on most of them. I replaced mine with a #10 Talon. I'd recommend this jacket without reservations.
I bought this one. I'm a newbie and probably just mashing buttons, but I liked the look of it and these few responses sold me. I also couldnt find a single other Siegel horsehide online that looked as old as it, so we'll see. From the pictures how would you rate this one? Fair or worse? Any guesses as to the age of it? I asked the AI about it and they said that the boxier cuts of the jacket are more likely 1950s, and a more slim cut would be indicative of 1960s.

Any input helps. Thanks

It is from the 50s. Please post some better pics when you get it, the ones on Mercari were not great. But the leather looked to be in good shape. For a newbie (hell, for anybody) you did very well starting out with a HH Spiegel. You gonna need a zipper, @photo2u can help you there.

What do you (we) think of their jackets?
Comparable to...?

I have one that fits perfect. I wear it often because it fits me the best of all my cross zips. I purchased it new at their shop long ago. I was not a big fan of their production, but the fit was too good to pass. The hide on mine is average for that jacket in that price market. I think I paid $420 out the door some 20 years ago. By the way, mine is the left side chest zipper. The only jacket that comes close in fit wise is the Johnsons.

Some of the CC gear is water Buffalo. Not knocking it, I don’t mind it, but putting it out there.
Mine is in that Buffalo. It was new to me back 20 years ago. I liked the way it drapes and is thick. These jackets are made for the "biker" crowds. Good quality but not top of the line. I will describe mine in par with other brands such as River Fox, TRD or Kerr.

A water buffalo CZ just sold a few days ago for $99 on the 'Bay. I think people just didn't know what that leather is like.

Hi, new member here! This thread directed me to one of my favourite leather jackets acquisitions last year (a vintage Cal crosszip) and since I come across nice jackets in my regular online searches that sadly (thankfully lol) won't fit me, I thought I'd show my gratitude by contributing here myself.

From a couple of my favourite vintage leather jacket makers:

60s Taubers (no size tag, 49cm/19" chest - $210)

60s Passaic (size 38, 49cm/19" chest - $113)

Cheers!

Yeah. I bought it. Not my size either but I’ll post it here when it arrives. I don’t need another black jacket but at that price should be easy to pass along at the same price point.
I like that! Most of my personal faves have come from posts here.

Curious about Schotts HH too. Never handled it.

I have a d pocket with this label. The horse reminds me of the Korean horse seen in the Gibson & Barnes flight jackets. The hide is smooth and a little too shiny. More elegant look. In the jacket that just sold, the hide looks thicker and with more grain than mine. Schott 611H in size 44. It fits very similar to my Vansons Model E in the same size.
