AE Higgins Mill. Brown Chromexcel dyed black. I was gonna buy some black Semi Dress, but couldn’t find a deal in my size, so I thought, I’ve already got other brown boots (SD and Indy) and I don’t wear these much, so maybe I’ll dye them black and not have to buy another pair...

That's a really neat dye job, especially since you managed to leave the welt brown. I would have just dyed the whole boot. :D Nice work!

Thanks! Dying leather stuff is new to me. But so far I’ve done 2 pairs of boots and a jacket. And my hands.

The cowboy boots and jacket I went for a deep dye. These though I went for a shallow teacore type dye. Oiled them up first and then put the dye on not too thick. Time will tell whether or not it worked... I’ll have to see how they age and how well the brown underneath comes through.

Anyone with experience with the White's MP Service Boot? I'm thinking of a pair with the Dainite soles, either in Dress Brown or British Tan Chromexcel w/toe caps. From what I can find, the boot has less of a "Arch Ease" than most of their boots although more so than AE or RW IR's. I wear a 10.5N in which these boots are available in and have local dealer who can order them and do the measurements. What say ye?

I picked up these Red Wings at a local thrift today.

I think they are 2218 or whatever model came before that. 9" shaft.

Steel toe and an ANSI number instead of ASTM. I think that means there were made before 2005.

Pretty good shape and big enough that I can put my thick wool socks into them. Figured they were worth the $20 asking.

I nabbed some red wings today, too. Picked up a new pair of pecos pull-ons with the "super sole", as they call it. Right out of the box they're already more comfortable than my 3 year old pair of iron rangers.

I have had a pair of these for about 3 years now, most comfortable boots/shoes I own!

Hope you have good luck with your bay boots. I've sworn off the bay, so I'm always happy when I run across a pair locally.
Nice find, Michael!

Thanks Dale. Your new Pecos look good. I have a pair of those, but unfortunately they are little too tight on my feet.

Thanks all,
Michael

Took the new boots out for their first spin around town today. I think they will work out.

I stopped at my favorite local vintage store while I was out and there was a young lady shopping there that looked sort of familiar. She complimented the boots and said she thought she knew what brand they were and asked me what they were. I told her Red Wing and she said she thought they must be old ones. Anyway, we chatted a bit more and it turned out she looked familiar because she worked for our local cobbler for several years, until he died at the bench of a heart attack a year ago. Eventually the conversation got back around to the boots and she said she was sure they were Wesco's when she saw them.
