No turkeys attacked the truck, but a chicken sandwich did get in through the window. I took care of it on the drive up to Pallisades Park in Blount County, AL yesterday before enjoying the views. Tha hat is a Dobbs. According to the tag inside the model is the "Vernon" and it carried a MSRP of $22.50.

Fedoras Afield well in the car anyway. Driving thru a semi-rural area looking at homes when we were set upon.

It began with a frontal attack. And progressed to the front tire. It is the breeding season so the boys want to beat up any rivals. I perhaps did prompt the assault by yelping like a hen turkey.

Next the back tire became a pecking target. I guess they don't like black walls.
They feigned retreat if one of us got out of the car. Even my wife was only able to temporarily frighten them, probably because she was looking at them and wondering what they would taste like stir fried with jalapenos.

Over and over they feigned retreat but would come running back to the front of the car and block the way. Eventually my wife chased them off a little ways and ran back to the car we turned left down a side road which turned out to dead end in a circle.

So we had to turn back and go past them but by then some hen turkeys had come out down the road and they had moved down towards them and we were able to evacuate the neighborhood.

Took a walk around the place after breakfast wearing a Resistol 3X.

My wife found some “treasures”.

This is what the woods are supposed to look like.

This is what much of it looks like after a storm/tornado took out many of the trees last Spring.

This weekend’s flooding of the creek did leave this nicely polished piece of pine driftwood.

Royal Stetson for a visit to Horse Pens 40, a geological site of pre-Columbian Native American significance thats now a park and campground. Definitely a cool place to explore. There's an amphitheatre there, too, among the giant boulders, where they have a big annual bluegrass festival.

On Lafayette Street @ 13th, Saint Joseph, Mo is where what would become the Jesse James death house stood 139 yrs ago today. Jesse James Hill as it has become known has since been lowered more than 50 ft in elevation but it is said that in 1882 looking West across the river you could see what is now Hiawatha, KS. All that remains at the original lot today is this marker.

I thought my 1910's black Stetson BRE with Fray sweat appropriate for the occasion.

Between 1882 & ~1940 the death house was moved at least twice. It's location since then is next to the Patee House Museum, & just 2 blocks from the original lot on Lafayette Street.

A museum today.

I don’t get afield much anymore but when i do i like to dress like this and wear a hat fitting of the local population.
Stetson No.1 skinny ribbon served well and stayed put through several fall on my a** adventures as Pops spent the day with Son on a beautiful trout stream that humbles my skills most times. Yesterday the Son was humbled.
