I don’t get afield much anymore but when i do i like to dress like this and wear a hat fitting of the local population.
Stetson No.1 skinny ribbon served well and stayed put through several fall on my a** adventures as Pops spent the day with Son on a beautiful trout stream that humbles my skills most times. Yesterday the Son was humbled.
Be well.

Great catch Bowen! It just doesn't get any better than catching a wild one on a fly! And to top it off, fishing with your son, and a nice hat too! Congratulations!

On Lafayette Street @ 13th, Saint Joseph, Mo is where what would become the Jesse James death house stood 139 yrs ago today. Jesse James Hill as it has become known has since been lowered more than 50 ft in elevation but it is said that in 1882 looking West across the river you could see what is now Hiawatha, KS. All that remains at the original lot today is this marker.

I thought my 1910's black Stetson BRE with Fray sweat appropriate for the occasion.

Between 1882 & ~1940 the death house was moved at least twice. It's location since then is next to the Patee House Museum, & just 2 blocks from the original lot on Lafayette Street.

Thanks Eric. Among the various historical research groups several of us used to be volunteers on the subject matter to our state speakers bureau & would be asked to give presentations. Over the last few yrs things have become quite different just proving how times change.

I usually like the higher elevations, but the foothills are spectacular this time of the year. Western Mariposa, California:

Indeed it does Eric.
My bones are usually humbled for a few days after. Your adventures would probably either kill me or cure me. Got a pair of great horned owls that hang out in my back yard. Been watching/hearing them for several weeks. Haven’t located their nest yet. You’d like them.
B

ps: sorry i forgot about the responses to my post. I appreciate them all. Good thing i have a driver’s license with my name on it in case i forget. And then there’s Google maps and Hey Siri for emergencies.
Be well and safe
Bowen

Just took these a couple mins ago. There were 2 side by side earlier but the crows have been chasing them around and i can hear that they still are. This one came back.
Kinda odd such a large bird to be hanging around in town but i’ve seen them for 3+ years. But hey, this is WV.

My girlfriend and I took my kids hiking today at the Ruffner Mountain Nature Preserve, a 1000+ acre former iron ore mining site about 6 miles from the city center and about a quarter mile from my house. I spend a lot of time up there since it's right in my back yard, but today was my first time to visit the secret quarry. It's not on any of the marked trails in the park and was a little bit of a challenge to get to. After a steep climb, it was only accessible through a small cave-like entrance. My 7 year old strolled right on through but I was nearly on hands and knees getting in. The view from the top rim was impressive. It didn't photograph all that well, but if you zoom in on the first photo you can see the city there in the distance.

Excellent pics.

Love those birds. A couple live in our neighborhood. At night they are surprisingly loud. I wish the crows and blue jays would leave them alone so they could go about the job of eating squirrels, rabbits and other creatures in on our property.
