If I receive a jacket from a maker and there is a problem or defect in the leather that is visible to me right away or shortly after receipt of the jacket I will reach out to them without hesitation and insist that they correct this problem, probably with a complete remake of the jacket.
I don’t think you have that recourse when you source the leather and provide it to the maker. As I mentioned in an earlier post I have direct experience with this and when I discovered a flaw in the leather of my custom jacket there was nothing I could do about it.

Do you have pics of that flaw? Just curious.

Carlos, Here’s a shot of the panel with the stretch marks:

Here is a shot of the other front panel:

it doesn’t come through as clearly in the photos but in person feels veinous and spongy. I love grain and marbling on my leather as much as anyone but this is more like varicose veins.

Hh,
I am quite familiar with the wonderful graining seen on your Aero and many other jackets around here. The graining on the jacket I posted is combined with a spongy texture and uneven feel unlike any other parts of the jacket. I tried wearing the jacket to break it in to see if it would even out or develop similar grain elsewhere. It did not even out and after awhile I stopped wearing it.

I would think they would easily spot that and not use it el marro. Maybe they didnt have enough extra. Prlly why vanson is asking for 60 sq ft.

Makes me glad i am sticking with their comp weight and hoping for the best. Still paying more cuz custom length and tweaks. But with sale going on not too much more. And not 2k lol

Hope someone really goes for it though. i would be very happy seeing one of you guys rocking a killer vanson horween leather jacket.

and i would be waiting in line to pay 50% msrp of their stock price when you are ready to flip it. Lol kidding. But no seriously if it is a 40-42 pm me

Looks like they used parts of the hide from the belly area, usually stretchy and spongey feeling and thinner than other parts of the hide. It’s not weaker or bad leather in any way, just not as aesthetically pleasing. Generally you avoid using belly leather on things that are highly visible (like a front panel!). This has got to be because they ran out of leather and had to use all they had of what you supplied them. I wouldn’t be happy with this either, and I absolutely love stretch marks on leather.

Interresting, the regular commando is $850, the Horween one is $1600!
Ouch...
This is getting into Lost World territory, and i have to admit that for that money i would rather order a LW Leathertogs i think.

There is the mark up for the reseller here which is very likely in the 50% range.

And yes, at that price, I would go LW instead

Well, i just won one of these CXL Gold Standard Commandos.
@Bfd70 was right about no one on eBay caring about the difference in leather, it looks close to unworn and went for $750 with no other bid, coming from $1600 new i am pretty pleased.

The jacket has to reach @JMax first (thank you!) and then be sent on to me, but as soon as i get it you can expect a review and pics.
I wonder how the construction will be, see if Vanson can indeed deal with the mighty CXL.
