No sure whether the pockets make it look a little too busy/clunky for my taste. The difference is that the Maxwell is based on the 30s slimfit HB; I don't believe the Teamster is cut that close. The Maxwell also has a top pocket, which I rather like.

I'm the one wearing the Irvin! The pattern is certainly based on an original late period Irvin that looked similar (maybe not as Union Jack as that...), Ken said the panel shapes will vary - which is an authentic feature isn't it?- and the zips are NOS.

Ken is right. Of course the panel shapes varied as these jackets were made from recycled Irvin trousers. However the Union Jack configuration like this is one that I have never seen on originals before. Perhaps one exists out there.

It's amazing what gets produced, isn't it? Ken showed me some Irvin labels that he had been asked to produce, and whoever had designed the labels had spelt Irvin incorrectly!

This would not be a recent mistake. On original labels the spelling is Irving Air Chute. The g was added as a mistake when the firm set up in the UK in the late 1920s and continued on all IAC labels.

As always...Andrew is a living Wikipedia when it comes to Irvin flying jackets. It took a while, but here is the evidence to prove it

Hehe, not to worry! I just have the journalists' general aversion to appearing any photo, when I'm working at least, it's like making yourself part of the story.

I like the pattern very much (along with the Heron, Menlo Cossack, and forthcoming Bill Kelso offering) this will prove to be a popular jacket, although I don't think that the hide selection is a winner. The weight (and particularly the colour) don't complement the pattern so well in my eyes, unless you plan to wear it gently.

Ian, my understanding has been that most originals of this pattern were made of very soft, med-weight material (suede, capeskin, calfskin, pony, etc), which would make the buttery soft hand of this cream offering consistent with originals. No?

Dr H, I gather that Ken's preferred hide for the Shackleton is something lighter than full weight FQHH, possibly mid-weight, which is what I think is in the photo. He was putting that particular wasitcoat together when I ordered mine last week.

I'm sticking to FQHH as I want it in cordovan, which they don't do in mid-weight.

As I may have said earlier, this in cordovan FQHH with handwarmer pockets, not the cargo pockets, would be the bee's knees (or, rather, horse's front quarters).

This one is a winner, it will be great in goatskin ! I like it very much as pictured also !

I think that it's in keeping Bret, but simply paler jackets don't do it for me (you'd be reaching for leather cleaner almost immediately and it'd look grubby - not patinated, grubby! in no time). The first spill of blackcurrant juice from your kids on a day out and you'd be in tears...

Thanks, wdw a mid weight would work for me as a wind cheater, as I find the heavier hides a drag.
