Just curious fellow loungers, do you wear hat when you were on your wedding ceremony? Can you share pictures? I'd sure like to know what kind of hat do you wear on your special day

The lady's got her veil or tiara as headwear, how about you man?

Not your usual wedding headgear

When my wife and I got married it wasn't the first marriage for either of us. We first had a civil ceremony in Daytona Beach, Florida, during Bike Week. We both wore helmets to the ceremony.

We had a church wedding in conjunction with my US Air Force retirement ceremony--rather symbolic as I was leaving one life (the Air Force) to begin a new life, living with my wife. She didn't wear a hat, I wore the USAF service hat.

Here in the US men rarely wear hats to their weddings, but I know some Loungers have. Hopefully they'll post some photos.

Generally, one doesn't wear a hat during the ceremony itself, because they normally take place indoors where men are supposed to remove their hats. However, it's great to have a hat as an accessory to wear at other times before and after the ceremony.

Andykev loaned me his top hat to wear on my wedding day. I'll have to see if I can dig up a picture to post. There's a small one in my avatar.

I'm not married myself, but of the weddings I've been to, and the next two I'll be involved in, there will, alas, be no hats. Too few men these days seem to appreciate the point of the hat, most merely write it off as "something else that costs to hire." I'm not sure what's worse - this or the indignity of being obliged to wear a.... a..... a pre-tied cravat as part of thew wedding party. Euw.

Many or most weddings are also religious ceremonies. In the West, at least, it's polite for men to remove their hats for ceremonies like that.

Grandmother B once taught me "A man is not completely dressed without a hat". I learned well.

I wore a mint vintage Stetson collapsible top hat (Opera hat) at my wedding with white tie and tails (all purchased, no rental junk).

When I “assumed the position” to join hands, I removed the lid and passed it to my best man.

Isn’t that his function? To hold your hat while you marry the prettiest woman in the world??

That was 25 years ago. Still have the hat and the wife.

She’s used to the hat affliction by now.

Remember, especially for your wedding...
It's NOT a costume.

It's proper dressing.

I didn't wear it during the ceremony, but before and after- it seems to me to be unseemly to wear it inside during the actual event...

I wore full Scottish regalia (doublet and jabot, the Prince Charlie coatee is as overdone as the tux in the US), but I'm not very fond of the balmoral and glengary, so I didn't have a hat.

You’re probably known to be a hat person, Bill. That gives you a lot of latitude here. Weddings are times of celebration, when most people are up for something extra. And, with your selection of fine felts or dress straws nobody will be wearing a nicer lid.

I had a super-fine Panama made for my daughter’s outdoor wedding. It was black tie, I had a black tux on, but it rained, so I wore a 1952 Stetson St. Regis Homburg instead. My daughter was delighted.

Yes, the daughter will have final say.

But mainly I’m interested in the etiquette of walking her down the aisle while wearing a hat. Is that poor etiquette? I would not think so but wanted to make sure.

Same question in regards to sitting during the outside ceremony. Is it poor etiquette to wear a hat during the ceremony.
