It's nice to see I'm not the only one that doesn't have a Facebook...I just don't see the allure. I have friends that post updates every 10 minutes..who has time for that? sheesh

I know. I spend enough time on the FL. I really don't need another place to drive people nuts ;)

Would be great! :D

Awww..... you girls are so sweet :D If I had one, both of you would be friends on there for sure ;)

I've taken the plunge and joined facebook - there were too many events etc that were only being advertised on facebook pages, and a lot of my friends only put their baby photos up there. At this stage I am keeping it only to people I know moderately well in real life, but I have made a lovely reconnection with a couple that I went to school with.

I must say though, it's good for keeping up to date with announcements, but there isn't a whole lot to it, is there?

Yeah I'm on there too....I admit it.
I have my page set to private.
I'm not sure if my streetrod is viewable, as well as pics of my "girls", I'd have to check.

I'm in the Fedora Lounge group on Facebook, but I noticed that the group is scheduled to be archived. If the group admin is reading this, perhaps he or she could take the time to update the group so that it doesn't disappear.

I did try, but it won't give me the option..... apparently there has to be a box up in the top corner to offer me the option, and Facebook clearly hasn't chosen us as 'worthy' of the option to upgrade.... We might simply have to start over if that's it. I've hunted down all the options, but it doesn't give me any other choices.

I have no interest in joining Facebook - I'm in touch with all my friends regularly through e-mail and text so that's more than enough for me.....

I find it socially much more useful than the likes of MySpace (which I know changed since I abandoned it, but when I last used it it still hadn't evolved much beyond the level of vanity (online) publishing. The most useful thing I find with it is photo sharing, and it keeps me in touch with a lot of folks I otherwise would lose track of, even with email. It is only a tool, though - not a way of life. I'll be slow to migrate to any other platform unless it gets to the point (as it did with FB) where it's the only realistic option for getting hold of people. I know a surprising number of people who have abandoned personal email in favour of FB as a one-stop shop. It's star has now waned - they lost 100,000 UK members last year, with most who quit seemingly doing so (on the basis of anecdotal evidence) out of disillusionment at Facebook's rather cavalier attitude to personal information privacy. I don't see it disappearing, though, until the Next Big Thing emerges. Twitter seems to be something of a success, but it's a very different entity altogether.

I like Facebook although I just put totally random statuses up on there! Some people do .... over share a little. Plus there are some that are obsessed!

I put some of my photographs on there and it is useful for on line book studies and things like that.

Facebook changed their groups and I don't think you can do much with the old ones now. Unless someone sets up a new one and sends a message with a link to all the existing members on the old group.

I think a new group is the only real option at this point.... hopefully I'll find a spare half hour to sort that soon....

One wonders how Classmates.com stays afloat.

Apparently it doesn't; it's now part of "Memory Lane" which has made it even more difficult and annoying to use with lots of extraneous stuff that I thought I was paying not to deal with when I bought a Gold membership.

One of the good things about it was that you could look at the list of members of your class, or any particular years to see who was there--sometimes you'd be reminded of someone you'd forgotten and get back in touch with them. The other thing I liked is that it was good for military as well; you could look up who had been stationed where you were during the same years. With Facebook you have to actually remember names to search on, and if you're like me and very bad with remembering names that doesn't work very well.

Cheers,
Tom
