Event Prep

I have a very important interview a week from today.

So here is my question. What all do you ladies do to prepare for things like interviews or events?

I just wonder if I am way over obsessive, because I do things like start making sure my nails are ok, skin isn't breaking out..etc.etc...weeks in advance of the big day.

I realise this isn't specifically about vintage stuff, because this is an uber-corporate interview so wearing vintage would probably not get me a second interview...but preparing and being ladylike is....

Please reassure me that I am not the only nutty one primping and prepping things weeks in advance!

me? i'm usually scrambling around putting things together the morning of the event, or maybe the night before if i'm planning ahead!

this is probably not the type of response you are looking for, though.

i would definitely make sure my polish wasn't chipped and that i had my most responsible looking outfit clean and ready to go...with good stockings and clean shoes...

but maybe not weeks in advance...they don't usually give you that much notice, do they? at most i've had people ring up for interviews later in the week, at least, people ring in the morning wanting to interview that afternoon...

GOOD LUCK!

In this case I have known for almost 3 weeks already that I had this interview. Complex situation where the team interviewing people is traveling around the country to come see us all, so they notified us of the dates in advance. So unfortunately lots and lots of time to stress...

Thanks for all the good lucks! I shall need them...its 125 people being interviewed for 60 second interviews.....to pick about 25-30 people.

Yikes, 3 weeks to stew on it....

Yes, I prep too. Normally only get a few days notice, a week at the most and I start with the girly stuff - suit, shirt, how I'll do my hair, make sure I look the part and make a good first impression (btw, I usually give the red lipstick a miss, as nothing worse than having it on your teeth whilst talking), then I'll start preparing any presentions I have to give, as well as answers to questions I think they'll ask.

Good luck with it!

I don't think that you're at all nutty.

I tend to be an early preparer too. I don't tend to focus on skin and nails out very far though, as they aren't so much things I can control. I tend to be a rabid organizer, getting together any paperwork needed, printing copies of resumes on high quality paper and using pretty gold paper clips to put them together. I have spent time obsessing on getting a folio to keep said papers in. :eusa_doh:

Beyond that I fret over clothes. I pick an outfit way ahead. Then, I double check to make sure it fits, and make sure it is cleaned and pressed. I inspect and polish my shoes, and handbag. I also make sure I have a few pairs of hose, just in case. I think I use this preparing as an outlet for my stress. I'm guessing it lets me feel "in control". It may be a little different, but I'd say it's not a bad thing.

Good luck!

Depending on time and circumstances, I always like to be prepared and it never hurts to check to make sure the suit fits, the shirt has all the buttons and to give yourself a few extra minutes to prep and get to the interview early.

If you are doing your hair special, maybe you want to try the hairstyle once beforehand and oh yes! Make sure you have enough gas in your car or purchase your train ticket in advance.

I like to bring an extra pair of hose too, just in case. I even check my resume folder, just to make sure that I didn't spill something on it and forget about it.

So, yeah, I get it and do it too. ;)

Good luck!

I am exactly the same, making sure everything is ready and I have a back up outfit ready if anything happens. I also pass on the red lipstick and settle on a nice warm fleshtoned one instead.

Be prepared! I try to be as prepared as possible, even though I usually have only a few days to prep. There are just too many things to be forgotten to leave it til the last day!

Not that I'm always so disciplined, but I try to be for important things like interviews. Nothing like trying to iron a stubbornly wrinkled skirt an hour before you have to head out the door.

Number one most important thing:

Get Plenty Of Sleep!!!

There's nothing worse than going into a high-pressure interview situation with dark circles under your eyes, and feeling like your brain is sewed up in a wet towel. Get good, regular sleep as regularly as you can from now until The Day.

And all the bestest of luck!

I plan as much as I can with as much time left over as I can. I plan everything down to my makeup routine. I do this just because I enjoy it and I am always afraid I might forget something important. I set my hair earlier the the evening before, make sure everything is laid out, house is clean etc that way everything is as smooth as possible the day of the event. I am not a fan of feeling ill-prepared.

Try everything on ahead of time, walk around in it, sit down in it. I had an interview last year and got a new suit, new shoes. And the shoes were sling backs and I didn't realize until I got there that the slings wouldn't stay on with hose unless I walked very slowly. It caused major anxiety!!!

GOOD LUCK!!!

Good point, and since you have the advanced warning, if you are going to need a cut or a color, now might be the time. Just in case it isn't quite perfect and needs a little tweaking, it'd be good to have that extra time cushion to get it just right.

Edited for a silly spelling mistake.
