Yesterday at Border's, I bought a copy of Esquires special 75th anniversary edition. A limited number of copies were printed using apparently new technology called "electronic ink" (e-ink). The image on the cover appears to be animated, and parts of it flash as though it were an electronic billboard. An advertisement inside the cover also flashes. Very neat! And it's just $5.99.
The cover will last about 90 days before the tiny battery poops out, but this can be extended at lower temps, so mine is in the freezer for the moment. ;)

Esquire e-ink cover anniversary issue.

I saw it this weekend. I didn’t buy a copy but it looked pretty cool. Kind of reminded me of “Back to the Future II” or “Minority Report” which I think is what they were going for.

I have a subscription, and unfortunately, no flashing cover for me. I did, however, see the flashing covers at Borders, and they certainly are attention getting.

I just read about them, thinking it was some new, revolutionary thing. It's just another battery operated toy that's estimated to last about 90 days.

Still, I'm sure that I'd pick one up if I saw it flashing at me.

.

It is. I read the backstory. The concept was talked about with E-ink seven years ago. The technology was finally available last year. The cover is very cool even amazing....but the rest of the issue is lack-luster.

LOL, mag in the freezer! Not in this lifetime would my sig. other tolerate that.

I guess I am lucky that I live in a Monarchy that at least tolerates my hat addiction (may have a lot to do with my tolerating saddles stored in house and the fact that I shoe the prize ponies...)

Scotrace and MK, I agree this issue is greatly lacking in content. I wish Esquire would work harder at remaining Esquire and cease the seemingly continual attempt to morph into yet another GQ clone...
