Managed to try on a pair of Red Wing 2991...

...and I have to say the fit is no better than those Pull on Pecos...even with the straps.

So, I don't think Engineer boots are for me (they look really nice on the photos).

I gues I'll stick to lace up boots...[huh]

Soooo cool

Growing up in the 50s and 60s, I always thought engineer boots were the coolest and there are some great shots here.

Good job!

I had a cousin who was the epitome of cool in Salina, Ks.

DA ... pegged jeans ... smokes rolled up in his shirt sleeves, always driving a hot car and wearing engineer boots.

Great thread!

Wow thats really funny. I saw these the other day on ebay, then after buying them I just stumbled across this post with the same ones- crazy! For a starting bid of $39.99, I was suprisingly the only bidder. I don't think thats a bad deal at all, especially compaired to the $250 ones I was trying on at the local Work World that wasn't even a style I liked. I can't wait to get them, they should be here in a couple of days!

Please let us know what you think, Zephyrspeed. Like I said, I swear by these Work America engineers and I own very many engineer boots - both inexpensive and insanly expensive (take a look at my blog). I'd really like to hear from another owner of these boots. If anyone else is looking for 2268's, but don't have the money or want to spend the money, these Work America's are the way to go. As you can see, they are well under $100 and have been on eBay a lot lately. Snatch them up while you can.

I`ve been a Wesco engineer owner for the past four years. They are the toughest motorcycle boot on the market I think. It took almost a year of daily wear for the leather to finally relax. I know when riding that my feet will always be protected with these boots. They are worth every penny, Wesco has a life time customer.

Todd, were those stock Wesco's or custom made? What kind of toe do you have on those? They kinda look like Motor Patrol toe's [huh]

Stock Wesco 12D Boss #7700100 regular toe. I see them on ebay from time to time new in the box for $325.00 a very good price.

What are your thoughts on the Lewis Westway boots?

How are they for actual walking around (as compared to being on the bike)?

Leather quality? I've had a few emails back and forth with Lewis and was very impressed with their Cust Serv.

The westways are rather light-weight in comparison to any of the other two, even when considering that they are also at least 4" shorter, I'd say.

They are indeed good for being on your feet the whole day, but you would be well advised to use some aftermarket insoles, as they don't have much of a footbed. That being said, I wear them as they came and haven't been suffering enough to finally get some insoles, I am just sure it would help a lot to keep your feet from getting tired.

On the bike, they are just fine, but no serious protection. But I would also say the Wesco's aren't comparable to any true moto boot in that respect.

And I have to agree about communicating with Lewis: they are most helpful.

"I'm thinking of ordering a pair of Chippewa 27911's"

I've got a pair of 'em on at the moment, actually...

Bought 'em off the web a coupla years back and they're pretty darn comfortable and fairly light in weight, especially compared to the 'no name', steel-toed black engineer boots I picked up at a boot store near Hot Springs, AK a few years back. One thing I did do is rub some dubbing all over 'em, for extra waterproofing (they didn't name where I live Bath cos it's dry, y'know), which gave 'em even more of a 'broken in' look. The one worry I've got is trying to source replacement brown heel pieces in the UK!

I'm wearing the Chippewas today.

I've gotta say I love these boots. They feel as rugged and bomb proof as I was hoping the Frye's would be. I can tell they're gonna need a little break in but that's fine with me.

I got my Chippewa 27899 last Friday. I wore them to a hockey game Friday night and then wore them all weekend. They are very solid and will need some serious breaking in!

I don't want to keep them pristine looking. In fact I can't wait until they get some character. I hate brand new looking boots.

I ended up going for a 9.5EE. They are just wide enough, if not a smidge tight. I think they may be a half size too big (it's really hard to tell with a steel toe), but I'm afraid a 9EE wouldn't be wide enough. I wish they made a 9EEE. I picked up some Dr Scholls heel inserts and that took care of the wiggle room I was getting in the heel.

I think that they are GREAT!!!!! I wore them all weekend, and really put them to the test when I was out in the garage working on my hot rod. I wanted a boot that was not heavy with a steel toe, but yet still had function for everyday wear and work. They fit perfectly, and start to fit even better the more that I wear them. I honestly haven't worn anything but my Vans classics skate shoes for the past 10 years, so anything with an arch is something totally different. I have had absolutly no problems adapting to them, and I'm super satisfied with their fit. Their price was even better too!!! If you want something that isn't steel toe, lightweight, good looking, and easy on the wallet, then buy Work Americas! :D

GREAT ENGINEER BOOTS; GREAT PRICE!!

Good to hear, Zephyrspeed. I was doing work around the house this weekend with my $700 Horsehide Beck Engineers which started to hurt (didn't use insoles) and decided to throw on my Work America's (without insoles) and it was such a relief - like day and night. They were lightweight and comfortable. My ideal shoe size is 8 and so are the Work America's. They fit like a glove!

Yeah, well good deal. I hope people heed our feedback and take advantage of the few Work America's on eBay. BTW, I'm not at all affiliated with any sellers on eBay who have Work America's or am not selling them myself. I'm just an Engineer Boot collector and wanted to pass on good info to good people. :)

marineabilly,

How long have you been wearing your Work America boots? I was a little surprised to see that "Work America" boots are made in China. I'm curious to see how they hold up. Do you know if the company is also Chinese?

Have yours' held up well?
