My Lone Wolf boots, after one week wearing
The Lone Wolves are sure to age well. The leather is Horween CXL, right?
Really expect to see the evolution in the future.

Yes, it is ^^

If I have to say something I don't like about the Red Wing #2268, it will be the plastic heel base. The PVC material is quite a concern for me as it makes the boots look cheap. I will probably replace the PVC heel base in the near future.

It's odd, but living in Oregon where it rains 9 months a year, the plastic/PVC heel material actually caught my attention for a positive reason - the plastic heel base won't get soaked in the wet. Other than that, I don't like the plastic heels either. I do like the cord soles though.

Ther are an older version, made before 2005. The leather was an earlier style that will turn brown as it ages. The newer ones are dyed black all the way through the leather.

I just bought a pair of teh current style on eBay for a killer price, but ended up returning them. The pair I got was bad enough quality that I honestly believe they may have been fakes. The leather was soft and rubbery, the fit was poor (narrow yet very high in the instep), barely held their shape. A real shame. I would love to find a pair of PT91's myself, but 13's don't come up too often.

On another note, I just got a tracking number from Baker's on my latest pair of White's Nomads. Black smooth leather throughout with double midsoles, Vibram composition half soles, and natural heels and welts. These should be pretty classic looking. I am only 2-3 hours from Baker's, so I hope they arrive tomorrow...

Are the Red Wing PT-91's a Japanese only model? I'm having a hard time getting info about them.

Quite a lot of old Redwing 2268 ( PT-83, PT91, PT99) can be found in Japan, you may find it in Japan Yahoo Auction and Rakuten market.

PT-91 was offered between 1991~1999 ( PT-99 was between 1999~2005), mine should be made around 1995~1999 as a Redwing emboridery Label is found

I also ended up taking some pics top show what they look like before and after a fresh oiling. Keep in mind, the leather lightens back up in about a week, but it's good to know what you're getting into:

The boot on the left is dry, the boot on the right has been freshly oiled. I oil them up about once every six months - this particular leather is pretty dry, and it soaks the oil up quickly.

They are great boots! I've been tossing up between whites and wescos for my first pair of decent boots. I've never seen the distressed brown. They look superb!

If you are looking for nice brown color.. Whites win!
I hv the brown Wesco boss.. I feel it is turning too dark after wearing for a period.

I agree with this. I love my Wescos, but (in my opinion) the brown leather they use is too dark. However, the leather they use is very nice - it's thick and supple. I just plan on eventually buying a black pair of Boss boots like everybody else :)

Jimmer, you got me seriously considering that distressed brown. Man, they're some badass boots!

(And get the MP toes for your black Wescos ;) )
