I got my second series black RRL's back today after stretching and a minor repair by a local cobbler. Only $22.50 and I can get them on and off now with minimal effort. I'm really glad this worked out. Good looking comfortable boots and now I can keep them.

Has anyone had any experience with Wesco's black tie leather? It's the standard leather used on their Motor Patrol Boots and it apparently takes a good shine.

In general, I think think the oil tan would be the better leather for engineers but I'm curious if anyone has seen, handled, or worn the Black Tie stuff.

Sorry for the flurry of posts, but I forgot to mention one important thing - I got the new Distressed Nomads back from White's last week, and they were able to correct the fit. They simple glued in a leather insole - it looks to be about 7 ounce leather. It was just enough to snug the boots up, and I really like the way it feels. White's was very helpful and professional from the start and I am very impressed.
Jimmer thanks for the Great review, I think you caused me to pull the trigger on these boots. I just have a couple of questions if i may? i'd like these boots to be for motorcycle/work and dressy attire as much as possible, so im thinking on getting the traveler 90 degree heel with a 1/4 inch lower and a vibram 430 sole. 1) getting a reduction in heel height would that screw up the whole arch making everything out of wack? do you have any opinions on my setup? you seem to really know your stuff so i value anything you can add. And of course if you have any updated pictures of the 2 pairs of nomads we would all love that!
Peace

It is really shiny almost like patent leather. Google some pics and you'll see. I think it's a little thinner also than the normal leather

OK guys just returned home from a week of the Final Four in Atlanta. Can't wait to wake up soon and see what fun stuff you have gotten into around here. GO CARDS!

Don't get too excited; this creek has done run dry for the moment

I have a sizing matter. I try to order the road champs for some time now. First pair size 10, to small
size 10.5 just small. I just got the third pair in the mail and it is size 11.5 instead of 11. These feel to big they wobble on my foot when I shake my foot. And they slip. But it's been 20 plus years since my last pair of boots, so can't remember how they suppose to feel. And by now I want to wear them. Return again for size 11?
Thank u, Paul

How manly of me to be obsessing over heels

I have the standard heel on my Boss Wesco's and it's perfect. I think you will prefer that over the long haul.
On the Boot size per Matt Fink I agree those size 11.5 boots are too big, but I still prefer slippage in the heel when new.You can always wear them a little too big with thick socks but not when they are too small. The heel slippage stops over time, but not wobble! ( we need a thread on vintage basketball attire ). Go Cards!

Yeah man, get the 11's. the road champs stretch out quite a bit so if they are big they will be huge after some wear

Any advice on sizing patrol toes? True to size or a bit on the big size? The guys at wesco suggest I go with a 9.5 (based on my measurements, et al). I generally take a 10. Seem accurate to y'all?

My Wesco's are very true to size. I have purchased 4-5 pair and they have always been that way. If you are under 35 your foot does not spread out like it will as you get older; then it is probably correct to order the 9.5. But what is the option if you order and they don't fit? will they take them back? Can you try on some Wescos up there in Neverland? (Oh did I mention my Cardinals won the NCAA Men's BB Championship last week?)

Thx Ky,

No return possible unfortunately. However, I had a lengthy follow-up conversation with Kyle and he suggests that if anything i will probably just need to remove the insole, or worst case scenario get em stretched a wee bit. I'm still nervous for obvious reasons, but a hell of a lot more confident than I was... Guess ill know for sure in about 2 more months!

Lol. Actually the only other boots I bought recently were the Toys McCoy Becks which I ended up dumping so as to fund these PTs. Wishful thinking that i will be satisfied with just one pair of engineers.

Now, talk about leather jackets? That's another story  :D

Here are my new custom Viberg engineer boots, after a first day of wear. I had been thinking of a pair of Nomads but there were some concerns I had regarding the width of the shafts and the inability to request certain custom options that made me choose Vibergs (in addition to the fact they are top quality boots made in Canada).
