I picked up a pair of Carolina 12" engineers recently in preparation for my motorcycle.

They're brand new, "only worn once" according to the seller, and in my size. Came with the original wrapping paper in the box, with a $120 price tag on it.

$50 shipped on eBay.

Frye Engineers

I have them in black and they are the most comfortable Engineers that I have tried. I also use them as MC riding boots.

After skimming through this thread, I'm having a tough time choosing some new boots.

Currently I'm wearing some generic boots I bought through ebay. I've been putting them through hell and back, but I want something a little nicer.

I was set on some Chippewa 27899s or similar Red Wings, but I'm getting over steel toe boots. I walk a lot, and that weight is getting to be a pain.

Can anyone suggest a similar boot but non steel toe? Preferably within the same price range or cheaper.

Jan if you want something in the same price range you can't do any better than what you have now in non steel toe boots. Chippewa and RedWings are both good value for the money. Now if you want to go higher and a heavier thicker boot, but at a much greater price than to a Wesco, White, Dehner etc. Frye would be in the middle. I have the Frye Engineers and I really enjoy them. My Wesco is much heavier, but a lot more expensive. No steel toes. You need to try them on somewhere if you can. If you are in San Francisco go to Stompers or another boot store and get a feel. John

Ha! Thanks Guttersnipe - I mentioned before that I started off the blog for me as a source of reference on various Engineer Boots and what they sell for. - I never knew what a "follower" was at the beginning. I don't ever expect to have more than eighty followers, but it's good to know people can take something away from it.

I'll be picking up a couple of high end Engineer Boots when I return home - the Mister Freedom Road Champs and the Wesco Narrow's. I might even order up a pair of custom Vibergs. I only say "high end" because of the price - Chippewa's (U.S. Made) and RedWings are made just as well for a fraction of the price.

Cheers!

Wesco Boss

Long time lurker here, finally decided to take the plunge. Ordered a pair of 11" Wesco Boss boots, in black, with the MP toe, 705 heel and red leather lining. Can't wait for that Fedex truck to pull into the driveway!

Marineabilly:

You were instrumental in my Wesco selection. We corresponded sometime back, and I've been checking your blog regularly. Will post pics in six weeks (sigh) or so.

Frye

Man, I want some of the boots in this thread!

Personally, I have two pair of Frye boots, both USA made. I have the 8Rs and the 12R harness. My favorites are the 12R, the leather seems softer, the toe box is more suited to my foot, and the heel height is perfect. The 8Rs are great boots, though, and I beat on them pretty well on motorcycles and such. I haven't taken any pictures of my actual boots, but they look pretty much like these, just worn.

As previously mentioned, I just ordered a pair of Wesco Boss boots, with the MP toe. I'm (kind of) having some mild second thoughts on the design. Any feedback on pros and cons of MP versus regular toe on the Boss boot would be much appreciated. Marineabilly: you just got a pair of Boss's with the MP toe recently-- whaddya think?

I've had the boss with the MP toe for going on 6 years now and love them. Not as much wiggle room as their standard toe box I'm sure, but I couldn't think of having anything else on my wescos...

Hey PoohBang:

That brown pair of yours is actually my inspiration for ordering the way I did. That is a really cool looking pair of boots. I'd be eternally grateful if there was any way to see a few different views of them.
