These days as an honest eBay seller..you are potentially screwed with a dodgy buyer.
Thankfully IMHO the buyers that do that are few and far between..though I've met them & have sympathy for other Vendors who have met them too.....

I have sold only occasionally on eBay but thus far haven't been burned although I am well aware of cockroaches that use and abuse others there and seem not to be held accountable. :p

This does not look legit to me. The tag is cheap looking and himel always has tag saying what type of leather as far as I know. Quality of stitching is not up to snuff.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/mens-42-him...ther-button-bomber-flight-jacket/253210080420

Definitely a fake Himel Heron. First, a Heron does NOT have a chest pocket. Second, the pockets on a real Heron are rounded -- the pockets on this fake are squared off. Third, the pockets on a real Heron are larger and come much closer to the front waist seam. Fourth, the shape of the pocket flaps are completely wrong. I suspect I could find more errors if I looked closer.

Jägernaut and Superfluous,
Good eyes guys! That's the kind of scam I could see myself falling for if it was a 46...

Let me tell you about a dodgy buyer.

I sold a Vanson jacket over eBay nearly a month ago. 17th November. My favorite Vanson jacket. Even though it's always been too big, with sleeves that were too short, I loved it to death. But I needed the $ for something more constructive, listed it, sold it. Even took the offer which was $80 below the BIN, which was really low to begin with but whatever, just wanted to pass it on. Sold it for peanuts. Could've asked for a lot more and it would have sold.

Fastforward 20 days later, dude sends me a message that the jacket has a faint perfume-y smell. Let's ignore the fact that he's complaining about it after 20 days after he has received the jacket, the "perfumy odor" claim is a complete bs because I don't use the stuff. Believe me when I say the jacket didn't smell of anything when I left it at the post office. I'm not too fond of perfumes and colognes and all that stuff anyway. This jacket wasn't ever stored somewhere or anything like that! Had it sitting on a wardrobe at the ready the whole time it was with me, as I'd wear it often.

I'm thinking, is it possible that he mistook the way leather smells which can be interpreted as sweet for perfume fragrance? But if that's the case, you can call "bad odor" on every jacket being sold on eBay right now as they all have a smell. Hell, if that's the problem, Aero is in big trouble considering how intense Horween FQHH smell is. And there is a very sweet, perfume-y note in that scent, too.

So, I tell him I can't take the jacket back on such a bogus claim 'cause I'm in Europe and the jacket is in the US. I would have if the jacket indeed had a smell and if he could've actually been bothered to contact me a month ago, when he actually received it but God knows what he's done to it by now and figured to get his money back.

Clearest abuse of the 45 days return policy if there ever was one but I'm gonna fight this.

So this is the kind of crap I have to deal with now. . .

What 45 days return policy??

I made my first bad experience on eBay the other day, too. It's currently steering towards a lawsuit.. I studied law for 5 years and the case is as unambiguous as it gets, but it's still going take a year and plenty of time and nerves until this is resolved and that over an item which is only a tenth of the court and lawyer costs at the end of the day.. really annoying, even if the unlawful party has to pay for it, I still have to invest it first and wait for the verdict until I get it back..

Buyers can open a dispute about the stuff they bought for as long as 45 days after receiving the item.

Sorry to hear about your experience. I guess you can't talk about it now, huh. But some of these people... Funniest bit, when this guy msgd me, he says the jacket had a faint smell. Now that he's opening a case, he says it's got a "Heavy Fragrance". There's neither.

Ebay does whatever it wants when it wants.
Lots of times the sellers play all sorts of games, also.

See item UK number 232490072378.
I bought it from the UK seller who "missed" the jacket has had sewn on star emblems removed on both sides of the collar in the front.
UK Seller had it returned to his "buddy" in USA.
Now relisted with 100% false description under 253298883096 on USA site.

Then again in an exact opposite case a mislisted Aero Shawl collar barnstormer listed as size 60 with terrible pics and 5.00 shipping.
It was actualy an Aero special ordered light Tan Shawl collar Barnstormer with 25mm thick shearling lining made from a fantastic color cherry red Italian super heavy weight horsehide in size 50.

So just remember for every butthead there is also the ability to find the pot of gold.

It's terrible what ebay allows to go on. It's just not feasible for them to try to do real arbitration, and to protect the market they tend to err on the side of the buyer.

Whoever has the item in their possession, really, has the advantage. It's sometimes safer to accept a return, provided they don't expect you to pay the return shipping, and then at least you have the item back. If they've damaged it in any way, you can refuse the refund, file a claim against them, and the shoe will be on the other foot.

I've only had a few bad buyers try to file a bogus claim against me, and I've only had a few problems with things that I've bought on ebay. I've never lost a case, thankfully. Overall, it worked for me, but I don't exactly feel safe, but the risk is generally worth it. I'd much rather sell things without their overhead, though.

Will never ever sell on eBay again. Two insane buyers ruined it for me.
No recourse even when I sent them emails showing the guy scammed me.
The worst effing company there is.
And you can't give buyers negative feedback.
Screw eBay.

Seems like insane buyers are kind of a thing lately. I don't think PayPal can force a refund in your instance @Monitor. They'll have to cover it themselves. I once bought a jacket that had the sleeve glued on. Of course it fell right off when I put it on. I disputed and eBay claimed I damaged the item. Despite several photos of the glue all over the seam they found in the sellers favor. I was shocked but learned a valuable lesson that day.

I recently had a bad experience with PayPal.
Let me be VERY clear about one thing; PayPal will ALWAYS side with the buyer.
They’re crooks.
If you do ever have a case opened against you as a seller, make certain that 100% of the communication between the two parties is conducted within PayPal’s dispute mechanisms.
I provided an extraordinary amount of supporting evidence that the buyer knew exactly what they were buying (including 20, yes 20 hi-res images).
Nevertheless they claimed the jacket was significantly different to what was described (complete BS).
As the ‘supporting evidence’ for my case was screen shots of a conversation held outside of their system, they freely admitted that it was completely ignored.
Case found in buyers favour, jacket returned & I was out of pocket $120 for postage.
Completely crooked system.
Hence, I’d much rather deal with ‘known’ quantities within this forum.

You want PayPal Justice?
Email the CEO. I did.
Open case with USPS for postal fraud. I did.
Open case with FTC. I did.
Post on their Twitter page. I did.
Go to pro consumer sites and open cases. I did.
In spite of also documenting it all with pics from the USPS label to items to emails, PayPal was going to hose me.
After the above and two weeks of calls and emails I got my money back.
I lost in time spent but I was not going to get hosed again.
I will also never sell again.
Eff eBay and eff PayPal.

Exact same for me as a seller recently - eBay- dayum. I was out the seller fee of $70 usd plus the shipping, another $50 usd. At least the jacket was in perfect shape returned.
