Bob, you scored big - that greenie looks to be in very good shape as well...wished I had bid a little higher!

Apparently no one else thought of the hat being green either. I sure didn't.

thanks, Gene.

Another fantastic prize of a hat. I think this is either the second or third 7x CB Stetson retirement hat. Like the others, it's small - a size 7.

I can't say for certain, but it looks like Tony's ribbon work to me - and the seller was from Washington.

Nope, I've never seen that one. And I don't recall ever meeting the seller. But in his description he kind of acknowledges that the hat must have gotten a replacement ribbon at some point.

Those Dobbs Westwards were apparently offered in various quality levels, judging from the ones that have passed through my hands. I happen to have a couple of 'em still -- one of which is among the better "regular" (factory-made, moderately priced when new) hats I've encountered, while the other one is a decidedly inferior lid. If this auction hat is a better one, the buyer got it at a reasonable price.

I don't know anything about this hat, but the ebay pics look like my style of hat. Anyone have experience with these?

ScottF,

I don't have any pictures to post but I have three. Let me say that you got a great deal. The Lee Adventure has great felt and they are light enough that I have worn mine in 100+ F weather without a problem. I love them. Enjoy it!

I've owned two Westward and both had discolored felt from the sweatband. The Westward that I still own is an old one. Brad said it is mid to late 30's, so it is among the first made. If I was a betting man, I'd wager someone put a wider ribbon on it to hide the discoloration.

Old Stetson

I'm quoting Dinerman from another thread :)

This is the place. If you can post pictures, we can date it for you.

You have to host the pictures on an outside photo hosting site, like photobucket. It's free and relatively easy.

Dinerman, I'll take you up on that offer - here's one that's right up your alley. I was surprised you didn't snag it:

I looked at that one, but decided I'd rather hold out for something a little older. That's '60s, though I don't know if it's early or late.

Rats, I thought it was much older than that. Thanks for dating it!

It might be heading to ScottF's conversion corral.

Stylewise, though, It's certainly older looking, with the wider ribbon and hand creased crown. And it seems that the No. 1 quality designation was seen more prevalently earlier.

It's the guts of the hat that give it away- the rectangular size tag, the sweatband color and texture, the style of lining.

This is the second C&K milan in the last two months that I've picked up for under $50. I can't say I have ever seen a weave like that. The funny thing is my bid was for $22 and i did it on a whim within 4 hours of the auction ending. I didn't expect to win for that price!

Here's a question for you folks, would you put a pug or ribbon on this hat or wear it as is?
