Yes, Baskins is(was) a clothing store with locations in the Chicago area and perhaps others.

This one is really different from the others I've seen and the one shown in the only 3 way ad that I know of.

What does the "Three way" denomination mean?

Guess what kind of hat the TWA pin will go on! :D
I have a good friend that has spoken for the Scout pin, I wonder what hat he has planned for it?

Nice, Rusty. I like the Boy Scout pin and the bicycle one.

You pulled over bigger pics than I did, billy. I couldn't resist it. I've been waiting for a Whippet for quite a while, and I didn't want that one that color to get away. The seller started the auction at $180, and I didn't think the BIN was too bad so I snagged it early. :D
I'm glad you finally scored your Whippet, it's a real Beauty. :eusa_clap

Bob, that's a beauty. When you see one that's perfect, you can always rationalize a purchase in that range.

Thanks Bolt and Scott.

I figured the hat would go for the BIN price or more. I think the seller set his starting bid rather high, but set his BIN price low or close to what the hat would've sold for anyway. With that in mind, I thought why wait and risk losing it? So I grabbed it, especially since it appears to be a gorgeous example in a color I can definitely appreciate.

Might be a little overkill on pictures, but here's my first win. Needs some cleaning and blocking, but for $20 shipped, it was a steal I think. Comments/suggestions are welcomed . . .
The Mallory Knockabout is a fine hat and that's
a great price. I would not wait to have this cleaned
and blocked, however, since it looks like that might
be mold inside the sweatband. Once blocked, you're
gonna be thrilled with this hat. Do a search and you
can find pictures of mine and, I believe DOUGLAS'.

I think you may be right, GWD. There was a local (Chicagoland) men's store called Baskin's that was around for many years so I was assuming the same thing. BTW, the hat arrived today and it has a few gnarly stains on the brim that weren't pictured or mentioned in the auction. :rage:

Any ideas on how to clean stains on straw? Will Naptha work for this?

EDIT: oops, didn't see RLK's post on the Baskin thing...

I used Naphtha on my latest stetson milan with no ill effects. I didn't soak it for very long like I have my felts, just about 5 minutes. Others have raised concerns about the naphtha dissolving any stiffeners on the hat but the stetson really didn't have a stiff feel to it anyway. The hats I have with the Baskin stamp are all newer and are a bit stiffer so I would use it at your own risk.

I was following that one even though it probably would be a touch large on me. The colors really drew my attention.....nice looking lid.

Glad you liked it :D :D

The world finally makes sense to me!
Ever since tinmanzzz posted that picture of his screen, I could not figure out why he was referring to it as "wallpaper". I didn't realize that it was ScottF who said that.

You see- tinmanzzz has a Mac, and the the term "wallpaper" is strictly a Windows term. If you use a Mac, you call it a desktop picture--without exception!

I am such a GEEK that it was actually bothering me. :eek:fftopic: :eusa_doh:
