Straight outta the pages of the old Miller Stockman catalogs... Thanks to a tip off from @BobHufford i had this one on my radar... but managed to blank out and forget to bid even though I was staring straight at it and it went unsold. I immediately messaged the Seller offering to buy it. He had relisted the item but accepted my offer.. he just needed to figure out how to do it... but Then cut off communication. So the hat continued to haunt me for another nine days of its second auction. So in the end... my brain fart cost me an extra six bucks and 9 days... but it’s finally on its way.

I’ve actually been on the lookout for something similar to this one for a while now.. so I’m kinda excited to get it in hand.

Yes... too bad on the sweat. But for what I was looking for... I’m quite ok either limping along on this sweat.. or replacing if/when I have to. Wanted something a bit rugged that had lived its life some. You would think an old black hat of this style wouldn’t be too hard to come by. But I mostly find tan or Silverbelly as vintage... Or newer black westerns That weren’t grabbing my interest at all.

I've had the same experience multiple times with USPS lately. Priority Mail packages get hung up in one hub or another, sometimes for days or weeks. But they won't refund the Priority fee because, you know, it's not their fault.

Surprisingly I've never had this problem with regular first class or parcel service USPS, which makes it all the more frustrating.

Curiosity got the better of me after looking at this one for over a month.

I know wool is not the felt of choice around here... but this old Merrimac was just very interesting to me.

I'v seen (and passed up) many Merrimac's in antique shops. I wouldn't get your hopes up too high. But maybe it will be a pleasant surprise!

Hi everyone! Just bought this Knox Player from eBay. Had a few questions. From the research I've done I can say the hat is from between 1976 and 1995. I'm basing this on the fact that there is a label that says "Amalgamated Clothing & Textile Workers Union" which existed from 1976 - 1995. The fact that there is a barcode on the inside tag also indicates similar dates. Now there is what looks a price written in pen on the reverse of the interior leather band. Also, the size of the hat is written in what looks like white chalk. Also, curious about the hole punch in the leather band. And as everyone can see there's a lot of wear on the leather band even though it doesn't look like the hat was ever worn. I'm just wondering what people can tell me about this hat. The seller didn't seem to be able to answer my questions so I figured I'd try here. Also, would be nice to know if there's a way to stop getting leather residue on my forehead when I take the hat off.

The hole in the sweatband often indicates it’s a second quality or closeout hat and can’t be returned. We see this a lot from outlet hats.

As to the wear the the sweatband, it looks like a couple of the hats that have passed through my hands. There was a period when Hat-Co used some very soft, but very defective leather. My hats would leave black flecks in my hair and on my forehead. There’s nothing that could be done other than replacing the sweatband.

The Levine Hat Company has an agreement with Hatco for use of the Knox name in their hats. I'm not certain what time span this was, but they no longer advertise the brand on their website. I have seen many of these hats at the Hatco Outlet in Garland, TX, where this likely came from. Brent is right about the cutout in the sweat, and this likely came from the outlet.

IMHO, the sweatband is a lost cause. Every Knox/Levine hat I've ever seen at the outlet has this type of cheap sweat, and I don't think it's leather. Maybe Pleather, LOL. If you plan on keeping the hat, I'd replace the sweatband.

Four days later, it was even farther away at a depot in another state but still five hours away. Then three days later back at the depot near me. But then it spent more than a week sitting there. It took nearly two months for this package to finally get to my house. I could have driven the 1,500 miles to Vegas half a dozen times before I finally got it.

I bought a small length of ribbon from a seller just across the border....he could have thrown the package to me across Zero Ave. But he had to mail it...it travelled all the way to SanFran before working its way back up north to me. A well travelled package on a walkabout for around a month.

Any body on here an Ebay seller and have you noticed a much higher degree of flaky buyers lately? I have had 5 deals fall through in the past 3 weeks. I am beginning to think I am be picked on as I have never had such a high % of flakiness.....!00% actually.

When you say flaky do you mean they've won but not paid or they've asked questions but not pulled the trigger? If its the case of making an offer and you've accpeted the offer they can take several days to pay as opposed to BIN where they have to check out immediately. I'm currently awaiting payment on an offer that was accepted yesterday.

I did not list a 'make offer' . These were informal...'will you accept'..... two with a 'and I will pay right away'.....then nothing after I sent a message accepting. It is like a flu is going around. I have sold upwards of 250 items on the Bay and this is the worst I have experienced.
