Oh man I feel your pain sir. Truly a moment of sadness.

Fortunately I do have a Beachcomer on my hat rack. The hat is unique. I hope the new owner appreciates this vintage treasure. https://www.thefedoralounge.com/thr...ns-pugs-leather-etc.62249/page-9#post-2085067

Onward vintage hat searches and inquiries, Eric -

Yours is an exquisite example that looks to be in pristine condition. Come to think of it, that can be said about most of your collection.

Guilty on this one.

The BIN in less than two minutes I think. It’s still on its way, currently FedEx from my myus.com reshipper.

I am a huge fan of these 40s Royal Stetson DeLuxe hats!

Congrats! Good to know it's going to a good home. :)

Curious, how do custom hats sell on Ebay ? Good, fair, or poorly.
Thank you, Uncle Pete

If you are thinking of contemporary bespoke hats, I believe they sell for less than they did new. How much less is likely dependent on their original price. Optimo hats, for instance, are among the most expensive in the bespoke market and seem to me to sell for less than half of their original price. But in looking at a particular hat, the truth will out - and I don't follow these auctions often so others might have a better sense.

In my experience, they are all over the board. Mostly they sell for a fraction of what they did new. I’ve never paid more than $250 for a used custom and that includes Optimo and Montecristi Hat Works. The more expensive the hat the less of a resale percentage they maintain. I’ve sold some custom Agnoulitas for as much as I paid for them ($140-160), but a $450 custom can often sell for less than $200. Then again, there are outliers where a used expensive custom sells for close to what it cost new, but that’s unusual.

I have a passing interest but I have not tracked pricing of custom hats on Ebay very closely. But at least anecdotally I would say 1/2 of original price is good approximation unless the hat comes from a very noted hatter and even then not likely to sell for much better than 1/2 price.

Max, I just responded to your messages. I happy to see you got this one. It's not super high end but it's true to the time period and place. Also great that it's time stamped. It's very difficult to find old German Soft Felts so congrats. Paddy the seller use to post here but I haven't seen him in a while.

J. A. Seidl München (Anton Seidl) purchased / saved (1918) Mayser Ulm.

J. A. Seidl München was also a famous hat store location in München (see House of Hats on liner). I can't determine who made this hat which is not uncommon. I will take a look at it closer in the morning.
