These lightweight hats are fascinating. Amazing how they managed to get them that thin and light and still hold some kind of shape. I have a Borsalino that literally can be blown into shape. Not all that practical though: with just a little wind the thing is all over the place.
I just took one to Ignacio that is like that. So soft it won't keep its shape. I was even tempted to put Aquanet hairspray on it, like Bowen @AbbaDatDeHat does, but Ignacio said I would've ruined the felt, because it is velour. He says that he puts a mixture of "goma" (gum?) and water on the inside, not the outside. I will report on that when I get it back

I await the arrival of this interesting piece.

Henry Roelofs company. Size 7

I am very curious to see this one. Seller claims early 1900’s. The newspaper shoved in the liner is Denver post from 1904. I believe Roelof merged with Guyer around 1914. Though there were some hats with both names made in years later.

It’s Quite misshapen and showing age... but definitely worth taking a flyer on this one for the curiosity factor.

Seller says size 7. 3inch brim. 4 1/2 crown. 1in ribbon.

Fabulous find! I'm very curious to see how it cleans up with some brushing and steaming.

Well, it's Garrett's fault, Stefan. I had been looking for pre-WWII Austrian velour for a looong time, and a golden hat, too, and here he comes and starts selling them by the bunch.
And on top of that, they have been restored by BSHW, and with new sweatbands and liners, so I can resize them without guilt.

I blame Steve - back in 2008-09 he started this whole Pre-war velour / longhair addiction.
