Got this 40 year old Stetson in the Bay, I always wanted to have 3 hats, a nice Panama, a mink Stetson Temple (didn't know it was a Temple in mink, for me it was just a brown Indy look hat) and a camel Safari hat....

Well finally got my "Camel" Safari, bathered and weathered but in very, very good shape for a 40 plus years old hat.

Working on fixing it.

At least Andy Kaufman was entertaining. This is downright discouraging, since I've mentioned before that I think his pricing encourages less knowledgeable sellers to think they can sell any old piece of junk for a high price. Even if he offers it one day at 80% off, it would still be at the high end of what a mid-century Strat normally sells for, and that would be for a larger size than this one. The only thing this does for me is make me think I can retire on the potentially rising value of my vintage hat collection.

Mr. Tim listed a hat that i was interested in about two months ago for a ridiculous $350 . I figured I would just wait him out until he decided to run a "sale" and then pick it up for a more reasonable price. Instead , he raised the price last week to $1150. I'm guessing he will probably run a 50% off sale in a week or so bringing the price back down to around $500 , followed by an 80% sale . This is the pattern I have observed. Marketing technique? It doesn't work on me but perhaps it works on others.

Performance art? I hadn't thought of that angle. I noticed his hats went into the rarified atmosphere earlier this week. I'm with Mr. Durand, though. As eBay is likely the prime spot for wide exposure to vintage hats, he skews the market.

I drove by Bluefield, VA, last week on my way back from Myrtle Beach. I shoulda stopped and smacked him around a little! :D
