Ebay Hats: Victories, Defeats, Gripes & Items of Interest

I have noticed a disturbing trend of sellers all thinking that just any old fedora is worth $250, $300, and $400 all of a sudden regardless of size, make, model, or style. I guess some people have seen some of the particular ones going for that price so they think EVERY fedora is a $500 hat. To them, I suppose a hat is a hat is a hat.

I had this same conversation with Tim (the Cane Customs hat maker) about how it is starting to be painfully hard for a hat lover to keep up with his hobby. I have a strict budget and the prices are becoming ridiculous. I know this hat wont sell for it but just asking that price shows a disturbing trend.

The import costs alone from ebay's global shipping programme (basically 30% on top) would allow me to buy a nice custom hat...

Agree that prices are getting a little ridiculous on the Bay. I have found a few bargains lately but at this point a newer Stetson or a custom are as reasonable as a vintage. Although, there are those Holy Grails...

I refuse to pay $1000 for anything that can be worn and therefore could get torn, something spilled on it, blown off and dirty, stepped on or rode over. That guys puffing one helluva crack pipe putting that kind of asking price on a hat. If it's that valuable of a hat, should be in a museum.
