<Anyone want to guess what the 7 1/2 Borsalino (that's currently up to $305.00) will go for tomorrow morning?

I'll say $421.00. >

I'm not bidding or selling on that one, but I think it's worth every penny. It's a finer hat that can be bought from any source these days. It's a rare size, and they ain't making any more of 'em.

I know it's popular to express shock at high prices on good vintage hats here. That's understandable. We'd all like to be able to buy them for what they were selling at ten years ago (or even five). Still, I think these things are real treasures. I don't see them as over-priced. I think they've earned their current value.

I'm in complete agreement, Anj. Sure, some people have paid much more for a hat than they would have had they been more patient and did a bit more shopping around before buying. But a vintage hat in good or better condition is rarely a worse deal than just about anything that can be found in new, factory-made hats.

My wholly anecdotal observation is that vintage hat prices are starting to "recover" from the big drop they took post-crash, but they're still lower than they were pre-crash, and I kinda suspect they're lower than they will be in the not-so-distant future. So I'm thinkin' it's still a good time to buy.

Just arrived this morning. My first catches on the bay since my world was flooded out back in June.

Black/blue Portis Sterling Homberg $22.50 shipped. Just needs a brushing and a trip to the freezer to be on the safe side.
Stetson Whippet $37.00 shipped. Gonna need some brushing, Woolite, shaping and training. But, really in great shape.

Mystic, sharp Hats, my congrats. A shame, the liner of the whippet have such stain.

Thanks, Manfred
I think most of the stains on the liner will come out with a good Woolite bath. It has been my experience, so far, that a woolite bath or two does wonders to some liner stains.

the price of Whippets seems to still be rather high so...I'm satisfied with a few stains and the lower price.
