I have lost quite a few auctions where the winner ends up with it at $1 over my max. But none of those really sticks in my mind so I don't regret it. Plus, that winner won by the $1 but may have been willing to go way higher. I have sat in at the very end of an auction and bid more than I really wanted to because I "wanted to win". Those stick in my mind.

Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but just because it shows that the winning bid is $1 over yours does not mean that is what they actually bid. If you and I are bidding on a hat and you bid $32 and I bid $50 then I will win the hat for $33.

I've used snipes but, like Buler, I've also just put in the minimum bid to "lock" a seller into a sale, and there's always the chance that no one else will bid. I know, it's not much of a lock. If I'm outbid, then I might move to a snipe or put in a "real" bid in the last seconds.

You know, this is a good idea. I have never thought to do this. I had spotted a cloche that I wanted so I put it in my bidding service just to see that the seller pulled the auction. Now had I placed a bid then the seller might have thought twice about pulling the auction. I have always been hesitant about placing a bid because I did not want to call any attention to the auction that I was watching.

Simeon Zlateffs' daughter (who herself must be, well, no spring chicken, eh?) is the source for these slowly trickling out of Bulgaria.

I cannot understand why someone has failed to BIN this!

For less than the price of a new, inferior, contemporary hat you can instead wear an eighty year old never worn NOS, European Cervo Bantam! Is everyone broke (as am I) or bloody BLIND?
[huh]

I agree and would but I already have the identical hat. Very nice.

Right, it will only bid you up high enough to beat the highest bid.

Dang! I hope a lounger got that black stetson, I was bidding but didn't get to the computer yesterday, didn't know it went to BIN. Today I saw it was gone and wondered what happened. Oh well!

Sorry to bid it out from under you... I jumped on both that No.1 Stetson and the black Vanzina (with Borsalino keyword) yesterday. Hope they fit!

If it would fit my capacious bean, I'd be all over it.

I hope that loungers got those and will scan/share! Although I tried I did not get any of them.

I recognize two of the bidders initials(beat me previously on catalogs/mags) and have yet to see anything they won appear on the Lounge.

A Brown Knox Twenty Five from around the 50s I'm told.

Brim is a little too stingy for my tastes, tho. 2-1/4 is as small as I'll go. But a nice Cavanaugh-style edge.

I didn't have a Knox, yet. So, I went for a Rilco ebay sale.
